Pastor's Corner
The first sermon preached each Sunday is not by me but by
you. You preach a message of good cheer when you say “good
morning” to those you meet as you are parking or on your way into
the church. You preach a message of “welcome!” when you slide
over in the pew instead of forcing other to squeeze in front of you.
You preach a message of hope and joy when you sing enthusiasti-
cally during the service. You preach a message about the power of
prayer. You preach a message about respect when you listen atten-
tively while the special music is presented. You preach a message
of love when you smile, and say “hello” and introduce yourself to
visitors. You preach a message about faith when you give your
tithes and offerings. You preach a message about the importance of
the Scriptures when you open your Bible to the day’s text. Many
messages are preached before the minister stands up to bring the
sermon. If your message is positive and consistent, then the mes-
sage given from the pulpit will be much better received! Come Sun-
day morning prepared to preach your best sermon.
See you Sunday or sooner!

Signs of Age
EVERYTHING HURTS and what doesn’t hurt, doesn’t work. YOU FEEL LIKE the night after when you
haven’t been anywhere. YOU GET WINDED playing chess. YOUR CHILDREN BEGIN to look middle aged.
YOU KNOW ALL THE ANSWERS, but nobody asks you the questions YOU LOOK FORWARD to a dull eve-
ning. YOU TURN OUT THE light for economic rather than romantic reasons. YOU SIT IN a rocking chair
and can’t get it going. YOUR KNEES BUCKLE ad your belt won’t. YOU’RE 17 around the neck, 42 around
the waist, and 96 around the golf course. YOU JUST CAN’T stand people who are
intolerant. YOU BURN THE midnight oil until 9 p.m. YOUR PACEMAKER raises
the garage door when you see a pretty girl go by. THE LITTLE GRAY– HAIRED
lady you help across the street is your wife. YOU GET YOUR EXERCISE acting as
pallbearer for friends who exercised. YOU HAVE TOO MUCH room in the house
and not enough in the medicine cabinet. YOU SINK YOUR teeth into a steak and
they stay there.
Donations may be placed in the cup-
board at the front entrance of the church.
The items in this cupboard are meant to
go to the Eagle Grove Service Center
Food Pantry. If you should need assis-
tance, please contact the service center
M/W/F from 1:00-3:00 p.m. , 510 S Jack-
son, 448-3743. For further assistance
please contact Pastor Rich Taylor with

Association at the Samuel Lutheran
Church, 201 N Lincoln, 448-4450
Thank you.
Stewardship Page
There is a short poem which carries a poignant story. Here is how it reads:
To get wealth, he spent his health,
And then with might and main,
He turned around and spent his wealth
To get his health again… (Anonymous)
One thinks of a young John D. Rockefeller who spent his health to accumulate wealth. A line from the Columbia Encyclopedia says this about him: “...by ruthlessly crushing his op-ponents, and by accumulating large capital reserves, John D. Rockefeller soon dominated the American oil refinery industry.”
Was it worth it? Biographies tell of Rockefeller’s health problems, his drastic loss of weight, his struggles to fend off his opponents, which took their tollon his mind, body and spirit.
Finally, he came to see the need to change his lifestyle. Apparently, John D. Rockefel-ler got his health back again. He lived to be 98 years of age. His wise stewardship of his fi-nancial resources enabled him to get his life in order, balanced healthfully between getting and giving.
1853 MOBILITY CARTS
Last year 1853 P.E.T. Carts were distributed worldwide. While this is a signifi-
cant number the World Health Organization reports that over 20 million people
worldwide are in need of the wheelchair but do not have one.
Over the past few year our congregation has joined in this fight to provide wheel-
chairs (P.E.T. Carts) to those in need. To date we have raised funds directly or
indirectly for 38 carts. In the coming weeks we will be challenged to once again
support this program. Start now to be a P.E.T. Cart supporter in 2018.

all of you.
S.L.A.M. Step Up!
Hillary Sanders has stepped up to lead S.L.A.M. but she needs help from adults. The clipboard will travel
around so look ahead and see when you are able to volunteer.
As adults, we can still learn while serving.
If you don’t do it, who will?
Are you cleaning out drawers or a space of storage or a box of “things” and are not sure what to do
with the “things”? April is the City Wide Garage Sales and our church is going to be a part of this
event. A space has been cleaned out for storage of boxes of “things” that are donated by YOU!
Bring items (NOT CLOTHING) that are gently used, not broken, and clean. It is great if “things” are
boxed and not just put some place on a shelf. The room in the basement where paper products are
stored has been cleaned and has room for your “things”.
This is a fundraiser and needs to be supported by everyone in the church. So simplify your home by
donating to the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church Garage Sale in April of 2018!
Thank you for serving your church and congregation by giving your gift of time.

The Eagle Grove UMC Member Care Team would like to set up a Military Caring program, please contact the church office if you know of any indi-viduals who are serving in any branch of the Armed Forces. Please be
sure to get all necessary information such as Name, Branch, Address, and if they are able to receive mail and care packages.
Also, if you wish to join this program to send out cards and care pack-
ages, please speak to a member care teammate. Thank you and God Bless.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! We are told “Ask and you shall receive.” Well, I have asked and the women make sure it happens! On one of the deep snowy afternoons, a cleaning party was schedules and five women plowed through to the UMC kitchen. In about two hours the cupboards were emptied, scrubbed, and refilled; pots and pans were put into place; containers with no lids were recycled; and drawers wiped out and organized. THANK YOU! Lenten Luncheon was coming. Plans were made, circles filled the re-quests, actresses practiced, tables were set, and women cooked, organ-ized and feed the guests of UMC’s Lenten Luncheon on February 22 with busy hands, laughter, scopes of food along with hot water and dirty dishes. THANK YOU! The women aren’t finished but for now THANK YOU ! Pat Manues

Circle of the Month : Wesleyan
Important Dates to Remember
March 2 is World Day of Prayer.
March 8 is Bell Ringing for Women’s rights
March 15 NC District Mission will be held here.
Bible Verse for Month Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly
Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your
Father will not forgive your sins.“ NIV
“Short and Simple”
“If your prayers are complicated, simplify them. Remember, you are heard because of your faith, not
your amount of speaking!”
“I believe if I can keep my request very simple and not confuse the issue by trying to come up with too
many words, my prayer actually seems to be more clear and powerful.
We can choose to spend our energy releasing our faith, not repeating phrases over and over that only
serve to make the prayer long and involved.
I remember a time when it was difficult for me to keep my prayers short and simple. I began to realize
that my problem in praying was that I didn’t have faith that my prayer would get through if it was short, simple,
and to the point. I had fallen into the same trap that many people do—’the-longer-the-better’ mentality. I’m not
advocating that we should only pray for short periods of time, but I am suggesting that each prayer be simple,
direct, to the point, and filled with faith.
Now as I follow god’s direction to keep it simple and make my request without repeating myself over and
over, I experience a much greater release of my faith. And I know that God has heard me and will answer.”
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many
words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:7-8 NIV
