EACS Technology Newsletter October 20, 2016 1. For teachers in grades 4-12: District Expectations for the use of Canvas in October are to continue posting weekly lesson plans/newsletters in Calendar, create an assignment for your groups, to place a syllabus in the "Syllabus" section, and to distribute resources or materials to students in the group. 2. For teachers in grades K-3: District Expectations for the use of Canvas in October are to create a Canvas Assignment or quiz, and post to students. Continue posting weekly news letters in Calendar. 3. For all grade preK-12 teachers: Do you know about the GTA? (Not the video game). The (click this link) Google Teacher Academy is a free professional development experience designed to help primary and secondary educators get the most from innovative technologies, such as Google Apps for Education (GAFE). Each GTA is an intensive, two-day event during which participants get hands-on experience with Google tools, learn about innovative instructional strategies, receive resources to share with colleagues, and immerse themselves in a supportive community of educators making impact. 4. For all preK-12 teachers: Do you know recap? Recap is a free 4+ rated app in the App Store that is a student video response and reflection app that lets teachers and parents see how students learn. Recap offers a secure and practical way to use video in the classroom. Recap prompts students to respond to in-app assignments and stores responses privately in the cloud, giving students, teachers, and parents access to deep learning insights. Pics4learning can be accessed via this website: pics4learning.com Fun technology fact: Three years of research have led a team of French engineers to develop trees generating wind energy in urban locations. The Wind Tree stands at 26 feet tall, and is a new breed of silent wind turbine that turns efficient wind energy production into an art form as it provides for the electrical needs for the infrastructure around them.
