We will do whatever it takes during your treatment to give you a healthy, beautiful smile. And we include a set of retainers in your treatment fee to help ensure things stay that way once your braces come off. For the majority of our patients, this is all that's needed. But we also know that sometimes, stuff happens! Retainers can get lost, thrown away, stepped on, or chewed up by the dog despite your best efforts. To help protect your investment and keep your smile looking as good as the day your braces came off, we offer the following optional retainer warranty. Q: What is it? A: Up to 4 replacement retainers per calendar year, for 5 years after your braces are removed. It could be 2 upper and 2 lower retainers, 1 upper and three lower, all 4 lower, or any combination totaling 4 retainers in a given year. Q: Who is this good for? A: This is ideal for teenage patients who are, in our experience, more prone to lose, break, or misplace their retainers than adults. Parents, if you know your kid's tendencies and are already worried that he or she will lose their retainers, this is a good investment. We also recommend this for anyone who clenches or grinds their teeth, as this causes retainers to wear down prematurely. Q: How much will this cost me? Do I have to pay it all at once? A: The warranty costs $600 and may be added to your total investment at the beginning of treatment, or purchased separately when you are approaching the end of treatment and getting ready to take off your braces. You can pay in full or finance it over 6 monthly payments via auto- draft from your bank’s checking or savings account. All we need is a voided check to set it up. Q: Where's the value in this? A: We have seen too many times where patients have lost or broken their retainers and waited too long to get new ones made. This has caused the teeth to shift so much that they can no longer be moved back into place with retainers, and braces are needed again to get them straight. At the time of this writing, replacement or extra retainers in our office cost between $225 and $275 each. Q: What's the catch? A: The replacement retainers are clear plastic. If you need a traditional retainer with a metal wire that covers the front teeth, there is a nominal laboratory fee of $30. Q: What if I don't lose or break my original retainers during the 5 years after my braces come off and never need new ones? Will I get my $600 back? A: The retainer warranty fee is non-refundable. Q: What if I straightened my teeth with Invisalign or another type of clear aligner system? A: You are also able to purchase retainer protection with the same terms as described above.
