Mission: To explore the experience of leading development organizations with regard to (1) differing models for partner engagement, (2) return on investment and cost analysis, and (3) methods for effective implementation for E2E. Brian Calcutt is a senior civil engineer from Fairfield, CT, concentrating in structural engineering. He is particularly interested in the confluence of engineering and international development, an idea he has explored through his involvement in NDSEED (Notre Dame Students Empowering Through Engineering Development) as well as Engineering2Empower. Brian’s experience also includes a summer teaching in Uganda through the Center for Social Concern’s International Summer Service Learning Program and a semester studying abroad in Perth, Australia. He spent the summer of 2014 working for GE Transportation where he implemented principles of LEAN manufacturing, a body of knowledge that can be applied to address development challenges.

Cristin Pacifico is a senior Finance and Peace Studies double-major from Sarasota, FL. During her time at Notre Dame, Cristin has sought to maximize her impact by using business to create social good. Cristin’s experience on-campus includes co-founding a non-profit, the Jubilee Initiative for Financial Inclusion (JIFFI), whose mission is to alleviate poverty by providing small emergency loans and financial empowerment services to low-income individuals in the South Bend community. She also initiated and leads an impact investing club and the Global Business Brigades chapter at Notre Dame. Her work experience includes a background in Investment Banking, Commercial Banking and Private Wealth Management at Robert W. Baird, JPMorgan and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Cristin worked with E2E to create a case study in 2013 and looks forward to partnering again with this organization.

Andrew Pemberton is a senior with a double major in Finance and Political Science and a minor in International Business. He is originally from LaGrangeville, NY but has spent a significant portion of his childhood abroad, living with his family in Paris, France for four years and Madrid, Spain for two. These experiences continue to contribute to the international focus of Andrew’s studies and have helped shape his long-term career aspirations. While at Notre Dame, Andrew has worked for a non-governmental organization in Callao, Peru as a high school teacher and business consultant. He also gained experience in sales & trading and corporate finance while working for the Bank of Ireland at their headquarters in Dublin. Andrew remains an active member of the Notre Dame community through his involvement with GlobeMed and the Take Ten program, which have spurned his interest in development as it relates to global health and youth empowerment.

Amanda Peña is a senior from Los Angeles, CA with a self-designed major in Sustainable Development and minor in Poverty Studies. Her passion for social justice is best demonstrated through her advocacy for minority empowerment and gender, identity and relational equality as a FIRE Starter and president of the Latino Honor Society. Amanda also writes for The Observer to introduce sensitive issues to the public forum and foster fruitful dialogue and introspection. She has also participated in numerous development organizations both on- and off-campus such as the Foundation for Sustainable Development in Bolivia, the Office for Immigrant Education and Affairs at the Archdiocese of Chicago and at Notre Dame’s Kellogg Institute and Center for Social Concerns. To unify her academic and extracurricular interests, she is currently writing a senior thesis on the methods by which development entities can empower slum communities to participate in their own sustainable development. She hopes to draw upon her experiences and

research to offer insight into some of the engagement methods E2E may utilize in future projects for empowerment and collaboration.
