MESSAGE FROM SH. SHURBIR SINGH, MD & CEO, DELHI TOURISM

I am feeling glad and honoured to head the responsibility as Managing Director & CEO of Delhi

Tourism. I wish Delhiites a Very Happy & a bright New Year - 2018!

Delhi, being the capital city of the country has always been and is still one of the favourite tourist

destinations among the visitors from the different parts of the globe. The reasons could be traced

back and accounted to one of the best transportation facilities and the presence of varied beautiful

monuments of historical value that the city inherits in its vicinity. It, in turn, poses a great

responsibility for each employee of the organization to work with their responsibilities to promote

Delhi as a best tourist destination.

Shri Arvind Chandran, DANICS took over as the General Manager of Delhi Tourism on 1st

November, 2017. He succeeded Dr. Pooja Joshi, DANICS, holding the charge as General

Manager of Delhi Tourism from 5th September, 2016 till 31st October, 2017. Sh. Arvind is a

Chartered Accountant and MBA (Finance) from Vanderbilt University, USA. He is also a certified

Public Accountant. Prior to joining Delhi Tourism, he served as Registrar in the Guru Gobind Singh

Indraprastha University and Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, Delhi. He has served in

different departments of the NCT of Delhi and also the Union Territories of Daman and Diu and the

Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Ministry of Women & Child Welfare organized 15 day long unique Exhibition at Dilli Haat,

I.N.A.

(1 to 15 October, 2017)

Foreign Tourists also visited the stalls during the exhibition organized by Ministry of Women & Child Welfare at Dilli Haat, I.N.A.

Upholding the main aim to empower the women folks of every section of the society and be self-

dependent in their lives, the Ministry of Women & Child Welfare, Government of India,

organized a 15 days long exuberant exhibition held in the premises of Dilli Haat, I.N.A. from 1 to

15 October, 2017. The exhibition depicted various handicrafts items and products prepared by the

women groups from the different parts of the country.

cultural performances

Artists giving cultural performances during the special programmes organized for the Delegates of FIFA at Dilli Haat, I.N.A.

Taking up the responsibility and honour to be the Host City for the year’s most happening sports

gala event - FIFA - U-17 World Cup India - 2017, Delhi Tourism organized a plethora of various

colourful cultural performances to welcome the Delegates for the sports extravaganza at Delhi’s

one of the most happening and favourite hangout points - Dilli Haat, I.N.A. from 5 to 12 October,

2017.

3 D display of Football at Dilli Haat, I.N.A.

Giving its endeavour a sporty look, this year, Delhi Tourism partnered itself to and took an honour

to be the Host City for the FIFA - U-17 World Cup India - 2017 held at Jawahar Lal Nehru

Stadium, New Delhi on 6th, 9th, 12th and 16th October, 2017.

Organized by All India Football Federation Under-17 World Cup in association with the Ministry of

Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, the year’s mega event also entertained the

delegates and the visitors by throwing open a plethora of varied mesmerizing and soul-soothing

cultural performances at Dilli Haat, I.N.A.

In order to make the mega sporting event a hit among the Delhiites of all ages, Delhi Tourism took

Deep Utsav at Dilli Haat, Janakpuri

(13 to 15 October, 2017)

Mesmerizing decoration of Dilli Haat, Janakpuri on the occasion of Deep Utsav - 2017.

Delhi Tourism dazzled up its Dilli Haat, Janakpuri with mesmerizing colourful lights and flower

decorations as it got ready to organize the year’s most awaited event - "Deep Utsav - 2017" held

from 13 to 15 October, 2017 to celebrate the festival of lights - Diwali.

Organized with full enthusiasm and craze, the 3 day long exuberant cultural extravaganza offered

Delhiites of all ages a number of different beautiful artefacts and handicrafts items ranging from

traditional earthen Diyas, lamps, candles, floating candles, pooja thalis, idols of Lord Ganesh &

Goddess Laxmi and other gift items which were made available for sale during the festival to shop

for in order to make their Diwali brighter and happier.

Children took their share of Camel Rides during Deep Utsav - 2017 at Dilli Haat, Janakpuri.

Besides this, the fiesta also adorned the evenings by showcasing a number of cultural

performances by the artists from Sahitya Kala Parishad and Punjabi Academy.

Dilli Haat, Pitampura grooved up in style to organize the year’s most rocking “Punjabi Mehfil -

2017”, a one of its kinds most energetic 3 day long cultural gala held from 27 to 29 October,

2017 organized by Delhi Tourism, in association with Delhi Kalyan Samiti.

Visitors enjoyed rocking Punjabi performances during Punjabi Mehfil - 2017 held at Dilli Haat, Pitampura.

Being one of the most rocking events of the year, the venue allured and attracted favourably a

huge turn out by the visitors of all ages by offering them a perfect chance to get their photos

clicked by dressing up themselves in proper traditional outfits ranging from Lacha-Cholis, Kurta-

Pyjamas, Sherwanis, etc., that added to make the event more traditional and glorified.

Punjabi Mehfil - 2017 showcased the electrifying Gidda performances by the artists at Dilli Haat, Pitampura.

Besides organizing a number of vivid cultural performances like Bhangra & Gidda Performances,

the fiesta also threw open a number of tastiest delicacies of Punjab viz., Makke Di Roti - Sarson

Da Saag, Chhole Bhature, Rajma Chawal, traditional Punjabi Sweets, Lassi, Chhachh, etc., that

lead the visitors feel the real aroma of traditional Punjabi culture during Punjabi Mehfil at Dilli

Haat - Pitampura.

The Ministry for Social Justice Empowerment, Government of India organized “Shilpotsav -

2017” at Dilli Haat, I.N.A. from 1 to 15 November - 2017.

Visitors enjoyed shopping for the unique artefacts during Shilpotsav - 2017 held Dilli Haat, I.N.A.

Registering their participations, a total of 118 stalls got their spaces booked for the artisans

assisted by the different Apex Corporations namely National Backward Classes Finance &

Development Corporation (NBCFDC), National Scheduled Caste Finance & Development

Corporation (NSFDC), National Handicapped Finance & Development Corporation (NHFDC),

National Safai Karamchari Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC) and National

Trust under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and showcased a number of products

ranging from silk sarees, durries, readymade garments, terracotta product, jute products, dress

material, Kashmiri shawls/stoles, leather, cane & bamboo products, hand embroidery, bead

products, pearls, imitation jewellery, lakh products, decorative candles, wood carving, block

printing, wooden toys, tie & dye, wood, marble artefacts, handloom etc. During the Shilpotsav,

cultural programmes were also organized at Dilli Haat - I.N.A.

Delhiite’s one of the most happening hangout points, the Garden of Five Senses witnessed the

year’s happening “Asian Designer Week - 2017” held on 4 & 5 November, 2017.

During the 2 day long gala event, the designers tried out their every level best to showcase their

stunning and stupendously beautiful designs and highlighted the significance of fair-trade

practices, recycling and up cycling, and collaborated with crafts persons in design to bring a sense

of accountability in their creations. The display of mesmerizing designs by the designers from

to be the landmark of the capital city, Delhi and will be one of the main attractions for the tourists

from around the country and the globe.

Delhi Tourism bestowed with Best Destination Leadership Award - 2017

Acknowledging and hailing the inevitable and unmatched contributions in making the capital city a

most preferred tourist’s destination around the globe, Delhi Tourism bagged the Best

Destination Leadership Award - 2017 (as a state which has ranked overall first once again, this

year in the 5th edition of the WTTCII - Hotelirate State Ranking Survey 2017, keeping all ranking

parameters in mind) by the World Travel & Tourism Council India Initiative during the colourful

gala event held on 14 November, 2017 in New Delhi. The colourful Award Ceremony witnessed

the auspicious and gracious presence of the Secretary (Tourism), Government of India, who

gave away the award along with CMD, Air India.

Keeping up the spirits high to attract more tourists towards the vicinity of the capital city, Delhi

Tourism participated by booking its due space at the 37TH India International Trade Fair - 2017

held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 14 to 27 November, 2017.

Hon’ble Minister, Sh. Satyendra Jain visited Delhi Tourism’s stall at 37TH India International Trade Fair - 2017.

Having the honour to be the capital city of the country with one of the finest and world class

transportation facilities along with the presence of monuments of historical values, Delhi is the city

which attracts a large number of tourists towards its vicinity. During the 14 days long cultural fiesta,

the Delhi Pavilion and, of course, Delhi Tourism’s Facilitation Stall registered favourably a huge

footfall by the visitors from the different parts of the country and abroad.

Providing the Delhiites with a perfect chance to get aware about the rich talents of the people

belonging to the different tribes of the country, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of

India organized a 15-day long Aadi Mahotsav - 2017 at Dilli Haat, I.N.A. from 16 to 30

November, 2017 and Dilli Haat, Janakpuri from 16 to 19 November, 2017.

Sh. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice-President of India during Aadi Mahotsav - 2017 at Dilli Haat, I.N.A.

The 15 days long unique extravaganza was inaugurated by Sh. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice-

President of India along with the august presence of various dignitaries. During the fiesta, the

visitors got their share to witness and get aware about one of the unique and inevitable talents

inherited by tribal who participated from the various parts of India.

in association with Dastkar Samiti organized “Winter Mela - 2017”, the year’s most awaited

shopping extravaganza at the Nature Bazaar, a project of Delhi Tourism located at Andheria

Modh, New Delhi from 14 to 25 December - 2017.

Dastkar Winter Mela - 2017 showcased vast varieties of ethnic Woollen Clothes.

Organized in partnership with Delhi Tourism, the Winter Mela - 2017 threw open an array of fine

clothing ranging from Tussar Silk Weaves from Chattisgarh and Bihar to the rare and intricate

Dana-weaving or Tangalia Textiles from Gujarat and Kullu and Kinnauri wool shawls from

Himachal Pradesh to just give the visitors a warm respite from the chilling days of the city.

Momos Festival - 2017 at Garden of Five Senses provided Delhiites with wide varieties of Momos under one roof.

The two days long exotic fiesta offered Delhiites a number of variants of Momos ranging

from Baked, fried, dipped in chocolate or Vodka to Peshawari and Tandoori to Afghani,

Achaari, etc., to name a few that helped to lit up their hunger to try the best flavours of Momos

and relax their taste buds.

Besides fulfilling their appetites with a plethora of tastiest delicacies, Delhiites also enjoyed a

handicrafts and handloom products too.

Ministry of Textiles organized the year’s most stunning National Handloom Expo, an exhibition-

cum-sale titled “Tana Bana - 2017”, a unique fiesta one of the most delectable handloom

products at Dilli Haat, I.N.A. from 16 to 31 December - 2017.

The 16 days long exhibition-cum-sale provided Delhiites with a plethora of one of the finest

and Kurtis, kitchen linens, rugs and durries, etc. Along with this, the fiesta also threw open a

number of winter outfits ranging from Pashmina Shawls to designer stoles, winter jackets, etc., and
