NYPD—PBQN Crime Prevention Tips

Mail Theft Alert (Mail Fishing)

There have been recent incidents where mail is being stolen from residential and U.S. Postal mail-

boxes. Thieves are taking the mail to obtain your checks, credit cards, and personal information for

the purpose of identity theft.

Avoid leaving outgoing mail in mailboxes over Sundays and holidays, when mail carriers

don’t work;

If using a public mailbox, drop off mail as close to the last collection time as possible;

Shred canceled or voided checks, credit card statements, and any other mail which contains

your personal identifying information;

The community’s involvement is essential in catching a their, so if you see any suspicious

activity, call 911. You may remain anonymous when calling.

Phone Alert

If you receive a phone call instructing you to purchase a prepaid merchant

gift/debit card to make a payment for:

Bail money

Tax payment

Utility company service payment

Not to get deported

Random

Medical treatment for a loved one

Burglary Alert

The NYPD is asking everyone to follow these prevention tips:

DO NOT leave windows open or unlocked when leaving

your residence;

DO NOT “buzz” anyone into your building without know-

ing who they are;

Leave a light on in your residence when leaving during

nighttime hours;

Call 911 immediately if you observe ANYONE climbing

on a fire escape.
