Melkite Minute – Approaching the Eucharist
This morning’s minute will be about how to respectfully and reverently approach the Eucharist. First of all, the reason we all gather together in Christ here at the Divine Liturgy is for the ultimate feast of
our Lord in the form of His body and blood at Communion. Participants must:
Cross or fold hands and walk reverently without talking or visiting others in a pew Make a metany just before receiving Christ
Open your mouth wide and get close to the priest and/or deacon in order to receive the Eucharist Make a metany after receiving the Eucharist
Continue to cross or fold your arms in quiet reflection as you return to your seat and pray If you have small children, please let the priest and/or deacon know if your child should only receive a

In those days it came to pass that as we the disciples were going to pray, we were met by a girl who had a
spirit of divination and brought her masters much profit by her soothsaying. Now, she was following
Paul and us, and kept crying out loudly, “These men are servants of the most high God, and they announce
to you a way of salvation!” This she did for many days. But Paul could not stand it, so he turned and said to the spirit, “I order you in the name of Jesus Christ: get out of her!” And it went out of her that
very moment. But seeing that their hope of profit was gone, her masters seized Paul and Silas and dragged them to the market-place before the authorities; and bringing them to the magistrates, they said, “These
men are disturbing our city. They are Jews, and they advocate practices it is not permitted for us to adopt or observe, since we are Romans.” And the crowd
opposed them too, and the magistrates tore off their cloaks and ordered them to be beaten with rods. And after inflicting many blows on them, they threw them
in jail, ordering the jailer to keep them under safe guard. And he, receiving this command, consigned
them to the inner jail and fastened their feet in the stocks. But at midnight, while Paul and Silas were
singing hymns to God, the prisoners listened to them. And suddenly, there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the jail were shaken, and at once all the doors flew open and everyone’s chains
came loose. But when the jailer woke up and saw all the doors of the jail open, he drew his sword and was
about to kill himself, thinking the prisoners had escaped. But Paul cried out in a loud voice
saying“Do not hurt yourself, for we are all here!” Then calling for a light, he ran in, and trembling
with fear, fell at the feet of Paul and Silas. And he let them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved together with your
household.” .

شديدة حتى تزعزعت أسس السجن، فانفتحت في الحال األبواب ان ورأى أبواب السجن ج كلها، وأنفكت قيود الجميع. فلما استيقظ السيف وهم أن يقتل نفسه، لظنه أن المحبوسين قد مفتوحة، استل السهربوا. فناداه بولس بصوت عال قائال :ال تفعل بنفسك سوءا، فإنا جميعا ههنا. فاستدعى بمصباح ووثب الى داخل، وخر لبولس
