Web 3.0 is....

“...the Web of Openness. A web that breaks the old silos, links everyone, everything, everywhere, and makes the whole thing potentially smarter." - Greg Boutan

So, e-learning 3.0?

• It's just a playful name to help us predict the (near?) future

• Read, Write, Connect, Collaborate, Anytime, Anywhere, with Anyone

Page 11: E learning 3.0

Distributed and Open

• Learning without physical or virtual boundaries;• Self-organised (where 'self' = communities or individuals);• Learning 'in the cloud' - connected by systems and services

beyond any single organisation• Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) - environments

continually designed and modified by individuals to meet their personal needs over time;

• The VLE (the institutional virtual learning environment e.g. Blackboard) is superseded;

• Open: communities and resources• Institutions do not promise to 'feed the learner with knowledge',

only to guide and mentor them as they navigate and develop knowledge for themselves and others.

Page 12: E learning 3.0

Connectivist Learning

• emergent practice, rather than prescribed education.

• Helping and scaffolding students to construct, connect, explore and mash resources and people to create contexts, that induce learning.

George Siemens

Page 13: E learning 3.0

Extended

• smart mobile technology• personal• timely, so meaningful• ubiquitous, pervasive, niche adaptive• redefined in terms of time and space boundaries• informed/characterised by changed working

patterns• the formal - informal learning continuum• autonomous• facilitated rather than taught

Page 14: E learning 3.0

Collaborative intelligent filtering

• Collaboration across distance• Socially networked• folksonomies and other meta data

intelligently making connections for people

Page 15: E learning 3.0

3D Visualisation and Interaction

• Gesture• Haptics• Multi-touch interfaces• Augmented Reality• Virtual Immersion suites• 3D Immersive Worlds (e.g. Second Life,

World of Warcraft, etc)• 3D multi-touch
