PIQC Institute of Quality (formerly Pakistan Institute of Quality Control) jointly with Quality and Productivity Society of Pakistan (QPSP) announces its 12th International Convention on Quality Improvement (ICQI 2011) and 2nd Regional Conference of Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) at the historical city – Lahore, on May 2-3, 2011 InshaAllah. This is one of the premium events on Quality in Pakistan and is 12th of a series started in Pakistan by PIQC since 1995. These Eleven conventions over the last 15 years in Lahore and Karachi alternatively have received extensive recognition by the organizations and professionals from within and outside Pakistan. It is a forum for professionals, policy makers and academicians for improving Quality and generating excellence in our products, services, government and academia. It provides linkages among government, academia and the corporate world. It attracts top class professionals, researchers and academicians from Pakistan and other countries who provide the latest information, knowledge, practices, and researches through papers, presentations, panel discussions, and dialogues. Critical analysis, creative and practical ideas, breakthrough methodologies, and sharing of best practices by successful companies provides a collective vision to all concerned. Delegates from Pakistan and other countries participate in this convention. Foreigners are given special city tour where they enjoy the traditional culture and local hospitality.
The theme of this convention is ”Managing Quality, Competitiveness and Performance in the current global recession and the socio-economic difficult situation”. This theme would contribute in dealing with the issues of Quality under stress and difficult market and national conditions. Practical tips, research outcomes and focused dialogues are required to focus on the practical application of Quality & HR practices effectively and how they can be utilized by the operations managers and CEOs.

PIQC Institute of Quality (formerly known as Pakistan Institute of Quality Control) was established in 1991 and is the pioneer in Pakistan in the field of Quality. Today, it is considered the country’s most authentic and credible Institute leading the nation-wide Quality Improvement Movement. It has a well established infrastructure and network of top class professionals as well as highly qualified academicians to cater for the development of Quality Programs and Frameworks for the corporate world as well as research based degree programs with the collaboration of local universities. The success rate of implementing Quality Assurance and Management programs is around 20-30% in organizations. The cases where these programs fail, it is most often not because of the insufficient Standards, Models or Frameworks that are being followed (e.g. ISO 9000, FSMS 22000, ISO 17025, HEC’s Self Assessment Criteria, EQA or Baldrige Quality Awards), but because these models or tools are not effectively Implemented within various organizational dynamics and management set-ups. This presentation provides insight into TQM Implementation as well as introduces a Framework termed as ‘MSAC’ which may be highly valuable for organizations in improving the success rate of QM/QA deployment in their companies.

He has specially helped the Indian National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council in developing Visionary Leaders for Manufacturing Program (VLMP). His world renowned book ‘Breakthrough Management’ is used vastly used in the corporate and academic world.

5. Building a National Strategy for Quality and Competitiveness Maj Gen Mian Salimuddin ( Retd) Ex-Director General EME & Defense Science & Technology Organization (DESTO) Rawalpindi, PAKISTAN As a national expert in the field of Quality, Mian Salimuddin headed a National Committee on Quality and Competitiveness formed by the National Commission of Pakistan. The committee formulated a National Quality Improvement Plan titled as ‘ExcelPakistan’. This plan includes a nation-wide development of Quality aiming towards a ‘World Class Pakistan’. He shares this committee’s output and explains its key points with a new paradigm for growth of Quality in the country as a Society to be directed towards Excellence.

Aga Khan is one of most prominent organizations in Pakistan acting as a role model for TQM in its true spirit. With a wealth of experience as a successful CEO and the Coordinator for Continuous Quality Improvement programs in his hospitals, he explains the most important aspects of leadership necessary for the growth of Quality enhancement in organizations coupled with an organizational social framework derived from Islamic religion.

With a broad based involvement in the social dimension of the society as well as in the field of Quality Management, Dr. Awais integrates these two dimensions using the concepts of QoL. He discusses various elements of life, like economic wellness, environmental wellness, physical wellness, Mental wellness, workplace wellness, social wellness, political wellness etc. Based on discussion on QoL, the speaker presents a small “ Reform Agenda” to improve QoL of people of Pakistan.
