• Find out how e-books will save you time and how to use them on
and off campus via the University portal

What are e-books?
E-books are books available in a variety of electronic formats such as PDF and ePub and you
can access them on and off campus via the Library & Computing tab in the University portal
Why use e-books?
• It’s quick!
• The e-books databases let you search the texts of books, so you may find useful materials in books you would not expect to and it may be in a different subject area.
• The electronic copy is always available for viewing. You can log in via the University portal on and off campus any time of the day or night.

How to access our e-books
• Via the University portal by navigating to the Library Databases and Electronic Information Resources page from the e-Library channel in the Library & Computing tab.
• Search and browse content in the e-book platforms. Just select Dawsonera, MyiLibrary, Cambridge Books or Oxford Scholarship Online from the A-Z list of e-resources.
• E-books are also listed in the Library Catalogue and can be retrieved from search results by choosing Electronic Books from the Refine Your Search menu.
Accessing e-books from the portal• E-books are accessible via the University portal by navigating to the Library
Databases and Electronic Information Resources page from the e-Library channel in the Library & Computing tab.
• Note: when connecting off campus (or from a wireless connected laptop within the University) you may be routed to the content via the UK Access Management Federation page where you will need to select the University from a list of institutions.

Access our e-books from the Library Catalogue
• Search and browse content via the separate e-resource platforms in the portal.
• All electronic resources are denoted by the [electronic resource] tag next to the title in the Library Catalogue.
• Additionally e-books can be retrieved from Library Catalogue search results by choosing Electronic Books from the Refine Your Search menu.

Using MyiLibrary • MyiLibrary consists of over 6,700 individual titles across a wide range
of subjects.
• Generally users are limited to downloading or printing 10 pages at a time in a session from MyiLibrary.
• A warning message will be displayed onscreen to indicate that you are trying to copy/print too many pages. Just alter the page range to proceed.
• Note that you can only print directly from the title within MyiLibrary and not from saved or downloaded content to a computer or other device.

Looking for Health e-books? • Incredibly Easy e-books consists of 13 titles from the ‘Incredibly Easy’ and
the ‘incredibly Visual’ series.
• Titles are supplied in HTML format enabling sections and chapters to be saved to a computer or laptop.
Health e-books in Dawsonera• You can access the Health
titles we have purchased in Dawsonera from the eBook Catalogue
• Books can be downloaded for 7 days
• Access and view via them 24/7 from the portal on and off campus
Looking for Business e-books? • Cambridge Books Online has a total of 981 titles including the Economics
collection.• Oxford Scholarship Online comprises 433 titles from the Business and
Management, and Economics and Finance subject collections.
• Titles are supplied in PDF format enabling sections and chapters to be downloaded for a specified loan period to mobile and other devices. At the end of the loan period, the PDF files expire and are no longer accessible.
Try Cambridge Books Online e-books
• We have a total of 981 titles from the Economics collection, Film, Media, Mass Communication collection and titles published between the years 2006 to 2010 from the Sociology collection.
• Titles are supplied in PDF format enabling sections and chapters to be downloaded for a specified loan period to mobile and other devices.
• At the end of the loan period, the PDF files expire and are no longer accessible.
