Why are e-books useful?You can access and use e-books on campus or from home.They are often titles in high demand which makes it easierto access them at the point of need.There is no need to borrow, renew or pay overdue charges!They can be used when you are on placement or in practicewithout the worry of getting them back on time. 3. Printing from e-booksUCS uses two main e-book suppliers (Dawsonera andEbrary) which are are very similar in format and easy to use.You can copy and print from e-books but the allowancevaries; usually it is up to 5% or a chapter (in line withcopyright restrictions).Once you have reached your print quota you cannot revisitthe same e-book at a later date and copy or print morepages. 4. Reading and downloadingE-books can be read online or downloaded. If use Read onlineoptions you can copy and save links to e-books. The Downloadoption is often a little more complicated, however.Dawson e-booksThese can be downloaded for a specified number of days (but notonto Kindles due to digital rights software).Ebrary e-booksChapters can be downloaded as PDFs and can also be read onKindles. Alternatively, whole books can be downloaded if youfirstly install Adobe Digital editions onto your computer. 5. Accessing e-booksYou can access e-books via Summon. Just enter a few searchwords in the search box and click Find. Then refine your results toFull Text Online and to Book / eBook 6. Selecting an e-book to readSelect a title from your results list in Summon and click on thetitle.Click on the Read Me button. 7. Dawsonera e-BookClick on the Read only icon to open the book. 8. Browsing a Dawsonera bookRead through the book page by page by clicking the arrows oneach side of the page. Browse by clicking on the links (left) todrill down further into sections and sub sections.Print by clicking the print button (right). 9. Searching a Dawsonera e-bookSearch the whole book by entering a word or phrase into thesearch box. Use quotation marks around a phrase to search forthe words as a fixed string e.g. nursing theory 10. Ebrary e-booksChoose to read online or download the title: 11. Searching an Ebrary e-bookBrowse the table of contents or search within the content of the book byentering a word or phrase into the search box. 12. Printing from an Ebrary e-book The contents page will be redisplayed showing which sectionthe content has been found in. Click on the arrow next to the section to see the links to thepages with your word or phrase.
