Over one in ten of your students will be dyslexic.Dyslexic students will span every ability level and every culture, and will be as individual and varied in their interests as their neurotypical classmates. In the right environment – one where they are empowered to play to their considerable strengths – dyslexics are making invaluable contributions to individuals, organisations and to our country.

This year, Dyslexia Awareness Week is all about empowering people with dyslexia. Whether it be empowering them to access support, find careers where they can flourish in organisations that value them, or access and contribute to the wider world in every way they wish to.

Between 7-15 October, we are asking you to pause for half an hour or so and give students and staff an opportunity to come together to explore the contribution dyslexics are already making, and share ideas about how everyone can empower them to do more.

Thank you for being involved in this year’s Dyslexia Awareness Week. We hope your activity is a lively and positive experience, empowering dyslexics and non-dyslexics alike.

We advise that you display the poster in your school, adding details of any awareness sessions or events you may be running during the week to keep everyone up to date with how your school is supporting dyslexia, and how they can get involved!

Run an awareness session in your schoolWhy not spread awareness of dyslexia by sharing the attached PowerPoint presentation in your school assembly or classroom?

Whether it means taking 10 minutes out of a lesson, or sharing to everyone in your school assembly, it is a great way to help children, and staff members alike, better understand dyslexia, and how it should empower those who live with this learning difference.
