EXECUTIVESUMMARYTHEISSUESomewhere inyourcommunity, therearepeople–men,women,evenchildren–whoareseriously illandout of options. They have lost all hope as they are battling illnesses not well understood by themedicalcommunity.Yet,theirsufferingisveryreal.
MultipleChemicalSensitivities(MCS),Fibromyalgia(FM)andChronicFatigueSyndrome/MyalgicEncephalomyelitis(ME/CFS)affectmillionsofpeoplearoundtheglobe.Itmaybesurprisingtolearnthattheoccurrenceiscomparabletoheartdisease.Therearecurrentlynostandardizedtreatmentsforthesesyndromes.
Thesecomplex,multi-systemillnessesrobindividualsoftheirlivesandtheirdignity.Inseverecases,onceactive,contributingmembersofsocietybecomedisabled.Often,theyspendwhatlittleenergytheyhavechasingsymptomsandseekingtreatments.Whilethesepeoplecomefromallbackgrounds,theyshareonething–theywanttogettheirlivesback.
THEOPPORTUNITYSince2008,DynamicNeuralRetrainingSystem(DNRS)hasbeenhelpingthousandsofpeopleregain theirhealththroughauniquetreatmentbasedontheprinciplesofneuroplasticity(thebrain’sabilitytochange,orrewireitself).TheprogramtheorizesthatMCS/FM/ME/CFSareduetobraintraumaresultinginchangestothefunctioningofapartofthebraincalledthelimbicsystem. Overtime,thisnegativelyaffectstheabilityofmultiplesystemsinthebodytofunction.Rewiringthelimbicsystemprovidesthecatalysttoareturntohealth.StronganecdotalreportsfromDNRSparticipantsandpreliminaryclinicaldataareverypromising,oftenindicatingprofoundchangesin healthandqualityoflife.
THEFUTUREItistimetomovethistreatmentprogramintothemedicalrealm.Rightfullyso,medicalpractitionersrequireobjectiveevidenceshowingatreatment’seffectivenessbeforeprescribingit.TheUniversityofCalgaryandTheUniversityofAlbertaarecollaboratingonamulti-stageacademicresearchstudytoexaminetheimpactoftheDNRSprogramonthebrain.TheUniversityofCalgaryisaleaderinbrainimagingandbrainresearchandtheUniversityofAlberta’sIntegrativeHealthInstituteisaleaderinresearchingintegrativemedicine.Assuch,theyarethenaturalpartnersforthisstudy.Researchwillincludefunctionalmagneticresonanceimaging(FMRI)andvariousothermarkersinhealthatbaselineandatsixmonthspost-treatmentintervention.ResearcherswillassessscansandothermarkerstolearnmoreaboutthepotentialimpactofDNRSonthebrain. Thescanswillidentifywhatchanges–ifany–areoccurringinthebrainsofDNRSparticipantsanddemonstratehowthesechangescorrelatetotheirimprovements.

Theresearchstudyhasthreephasesandthetotalcostisestimatedtobe$500,000.Becauseweknowmorethananyonethatthesufferingcanend,weareaskingforyoursupport.Aftersuccessfullyraising$100,000forPhase1ofthestudyfromasmallgroupofdedicatedsupporters,weare reachingouttoDNRSfriendsandfamilytohelpusraisethenext$100,000forPhase2of thisproject.Together,wecancreatebetteroutcomesforthosewhosufferdaily.Pleasejoinusbymakinga giftthatismeaningfultoyou.
THEPROBLEMMillionsofNorthAmericansaresufferingfromacollectionofchronicconditionsthathave
baffledthemedicalsystemfordecades.A2014CanadaHealthsurveydeterminedthatamongCanadiansaged12orolder,1.7%hadbeendiagnosedbyahealthprofessionalwithFibromyalgia(FM),1.4%withChronicFatigueSyndrome(CFS)and2.4%withMultipleChemicalSensitivities(MCS).Thisrepresentsover1.4millionCanadiansandanillnessburdensimilartothatofheartdiseaseandgreaterthanthatofcancer(refertothegraphbelow). A2015InstituteofMedicinereportindicatedtheprevalenceofCFSaloneintheU.S.rangesfrom836,000to2.5million. Todate,therearenovalidatedorrecognizedtreatmentsfortheseconditions.
Despitetheexistenceofresearchthatsuggeststhatthecentralnervoussystemisaffectedinthesesyndromes,bothadefinitivecauseandavalidatedtreatmentoptionhaveeludedresearchers.
Thesesyndromesareserious,complex,multisystemdiseasesthatdrasticallyaffecthealthandquality oflifeforindividualsandtheirfamily.Theseillnessesrarelyexhibitinisolationandmanywhosufferhaveacombinationofsymptomsthatincludeallthreeclassifications.
Acommonclusterofsymptomsfoundintheseconditionsincludesproblemswiththinking,
confusion,headaches,muscleandjointpain,exhaustion,depression,anxiety,sleepdisorders,andamyriadofsensitivities.Sensitivitiesrelatedtosensoryprocessingsuchasaheightenedsenseofsmell
i.e.,anincreaseinsensitivitytoscentedproductsandchemicalsfoundindailyliving,oranincreaseinsensitivitytolight, soundortoucharecommon.Inaddition,otherswilldevelopanexpandinglistof foodsensitivities.
Symptomsinallthreeillnessescanrangefrommildtosevere;consequently,someindividualsmayexperiencemoderatediscomfortwhileothersarecompletelydisabled.
ABOUTFIBROMYALGIA(FM)
TounderstandFibromyalgia(FM),thinkofthissyndromeasaninjurythatdoesnotresolveorthatisre-triggeredsomehow. Symptomsoftenincludewidespreadinflammationandchronicandunexplainedmuscleandjointpainthatdonotrespondtocommontreatments. Thesymptomsmanifestasgeneralizedinflammationandchronicpainandcanescalatetoseveremuscleburning,intolerablejointpain,musclewastingandcompleteexhaustion.
ABOUTCHRONICFATIGUESYNDROME(CFS)
TounderstandChronicFatigueSyndrome(CFS),thinkofthissyndromeasavirusthatdoesnotresolve. Oftensymptomsstartontheheelsofaflu-likeillness,buttheypersist. ThosewithmildCFShavelittleenergyandfeelasthoughtheyareconstantlybattlingthefluandhaveachronicsorethroat.Over-ridingfatigueandillnessfollowingactivityarecommonplaceforCFS. NomatterhowmuchsleepindividualswithCFSget,theyneverfeelrested.Eventhesmallesttasksareexhaustingandcanleaveindividualsflattenedfordays,weeksormonths. ForthosewithsevereCFS,theillnessleavesthemcompletelydisabled.
ABOUTMULTIPLECHEMICALSENSITIVITIES(MCS)
TounderstandMultipleChemicalSensitivity(MCS),thinkofanegativeimpactfromachemicalexposurethatdoesnotresolve.Forexample,someonewithmildMCSmightgetaheadachewhenexposedtocommonchemicalslikethosefoundinperfumes,laundryproductsornewfurnishings. ForthosewithsevereMCS,thesameexposuremayleadtoseizuresrequiringthepersontoliveincompleteisolationtoavoidtriggers.Whentheillnessescalates,manybecomecompletelydisabledandhavedifficultyfindingappropriateandsafehousing.
THEIMPACTONTHEINDIVIDUALANDSOCIETY
Suffererscommonlywaityearsbeforereceivingacorrectmedicaldiagnosis;eventhisdoesnotbringclosure,asthereiscurrentlynorecognizedtreatmentorcure.Duetothedelayeddiagnosis,conditionsoftenbecomesevere,meaningindividualsbecomedisabled,isolatedandhousebound.Manyareforcedtoquittheirjobs,oftenlosetheirrelationships,havelittlecontactwithfamilyandfriends,andspendalltheirsavingsexhaustinglargelyineffectivetreatmentoptions. Manyrelyonthegovernment,friendsandfamilyforfinancialaidandhelpwithdailytasks. Theirprimaryfocusissurvival. Manyhavegivenuphopeandsadly,somecommitsuicide. Theactualsuiciderateisnotknown,howeversuicideisrecognizedasapotentialoutcome.
Studiessuggestthatthecosttothehealthcaresystemandtosocietyisastronomical. ResearchhasestimatedthatthevalueinlostproductivityduetoCFSwas$9.1billionintheU.S.,orapproximately$20,000peraffectedpersonperyear.
APOSSIBLECAUSEOnetheorybehindthecauseofillnessisthatexposuretoeverydaytoxinscreateschangesinbrain
functionkeepingthebrainandbodystuckinaninflammatoryandchronicstressresponse.Thistraumaloopresultsinchangestotheneuralcircuitswithinthelimbicsystemofthebraininvolvedwiththreatandprotection. StudiestodatesuggestthatthechangesinthedeepwiringofthebraininvolvedwiththeseillnessesaresimilartothosefoundinPost-TraumaticStressDisorder.
Onequestionthisresearchwilladdressiswhetherthebrainchangesitsfunctionandstructure
inresponsetovariousformsoftraumainvolvedwiththesesyndromes.Interestingly,whileneuroplasticityisapossiblecontributingfactorinthecauseoftheseillnesses,theDNRSprotocolsuggeststhatitalsoisapossibletreatment.
EarlyfindingssuggestthatrewiringthelimbicsystemthroughtheDynamicNeuralRetraining
System(DNRS)isofferingpeopleaviableandeffectivetreatmentprotocol. Preliminaryfindingssuggestthatthisdrug-freeapproachtohealingiseffective,empowerspatientstobeinvolvedintheir healthcare,andrepresentsanewunderstandingofhowbrainfunctionrelatestochronicillness.

DAN’SSTORY
DanwasanavyveteranwhodevelopedanumberofdifferentconditionsincludingPost-TraumaticStressDisorder,askinrash,anitchingdisorder,foodandenvironmentalsensitivities/allergies,braindamage,leakygutsyndrome,heavymetaltoxicity,severeconstipation,insomnia,anxietyanddepression.
Dan’shealthstartedtodeterioratein2005afteraseriesofstressfulanddevastatingevents.Anasty
divorce,chronicbackpain,aseriousneckinjury,andsubsequentfinancialproblemsledtohisdecline.ExposuretotoxicchemicalswhileservingintheNavyandexposuretomoldintwohomesmayhavebeenthetippingpointforDan’sdescent.Thisoncehealthyself-described‘fitnessnut’becamecompletelydisabled;therefore,his77-year-oldmotherhadtotakecareofhim. Duetoillnessandan
increaseinfoodsensitivities,Dan’sweightplummeted. Dansays,“Iwentfrombeinga200-poundmantoaskin-and-bonesweightof119lbs.Ilookedlikeaconcentrationcampsurvivor.” Danspentupwardsof$450,000lookingforananswertohisailinghealthbeforestartingtheDynamicNeuralRetrainingSystem.

ThepilotstudywillincludepeoplewhohaveMultipleChemicalSensitivities,FibromyalgiaandChronicFatigueSyndrome.Researchwillincludebrain-imagingtechniquestotrackchangesinbrainfunctionaswellasvariousothermarkersinhealthforthosewhoareimplementingtheDNRStrainingintheirrecoveryprocess.

Theintentoftheresearchstudyistolookatandbetterunderstandthebrainfunctioninpatients
affectedbyFM,CFSandMCS,andtoinvestigatetheimpact,ifany,thattheDNRStreatmenthasfortheseindividuals.
THEDNRSFRIENDSANDFAMILYCAMPAIGNManyofyouhaveexperiencedthepoweroftheDNRSprogram,orhavewitnessedthetransformation
