Personalized Navigation
Personalization Options available at both the admin and user level
■ Benefits Include:
▪ More productive and engaged user

▪ Guided Processes – Activity Guides!
▪ Reduce or Eliminate cumbersome menu navigation – increasing efficiency!
■ All to provide a BETTER USER EXPERIENCE
Better User Experience!
■ Activity guides are a powerful and easy way to provide guided step-by-step
procedures to your users
■ They particularly useful for infrequently performed tasks or self-service applications
■ Activity Guides can be either standalone or exist inside of a WorkCenter
■ Can make simple activity guides or more complex to specific groupings (summary
tasks) or dependencies within a given task.
■ Can make non-PS pages apart of the process and display them in the activity guide
▪ Content from other applications
▪ Queries
▪ External Websites
■ Are easy to configure within PS without writing any code.
What is an Activity Guide?
Improving User Experience
■ Problem: When onboarding new employees I frequently have to sit next to them and
take them through the onboarding process showing them which fields need to be filled
out. This takes time and effort out of my day.
■ Traditional Solution: Create training material such as a quick start guide or a UPK.
■ With Activity Guides: I can create a simple and easy to use listing of tasks that guides
an end user through a task to completion. As an end user they have visibility into the
process and have reassuring confirmation that their task is complete. I as a manager do
not have to train many employees on this process.
■ 1. Determine tasks to be completed by the users and the ordering of tasks.
▪ 1. Enter a Supplier
▪ 2. Approve a Supplier
■ 2. Determine whether any tasks groupings. For example, summary tasks that serve
as parent tasks.
▪ Example: Employee Onboarding, entering in Personal Information could consist of Phone
Number, Address, Name etc.
■ 3. Determine which PeopleSoft component (transaction) corresponds to each task.
▪ 1. MAINTAIN_VENDORS
▪ 2. MAINTAIN_VENDORS
■ 4. Determine which role or user can be assigned to each task.
▪ 1. AP Clerk
▪ 2. Accounting Manager
Pre-setup tasks
■ 1. Create an Activity Guide Template (PeopleTools > Portal > Activity Guide >
Manage Activity Guide Templates)
▪ Add Activity Guide ID, Title and Description
Setup Activity Guides
1a. Security: Specify Security at either the User or Role Level
o Administrators – Update Templates / related instances
o Contributors – Complete action items within a templates related instance
o Viewer – View but not update action items within an instance

1c. Pagelet Options: Specify Navigation buttons
o Previous, and Next are default
o Other example, Mark as Complete
o Pagelet Process Bar Visible
Setup Activity Guides
2. Add Action Items to Template
*NOTE: You must create a related content service definition BEFORE you can add an
action link.
■ Sequence Number
■ Assign Type: Role or User
■ Assigned To
■ Action Item Link
▪ App Class URL
▪ Non PS URL
▪ Query
▪ Script
3. Generate a Pagelet for your Activity (PeopleTools > Portal > Pagelet Wizard)
Setup Activity Guides
■ Save time, Time = Money
■ Powerful and easy way to present business processes to your users.
■ Easy and intuitive to use
■ Better User Experience
Benefits of Activity Guides
■ Drilling URLs within PeopleSoft's Query are the URLs that you define
by selecting the menu, component, page, portal object, or URL of
choice.
■ The drill down URL will take you directly to the context sensitive
transaction page as soon as you click on the link that appears along
with the query results.
■ This eliminates the need of noting down the value and navigating to
the component manually to enter the data and open up the page for
editing. This feature can be particularly helpful for those whom base a
lot of their daily work of off query results.
▪ Better User Experience
Query Drilling URLWhat are they?
■ Problem: There is a gap between delivered and desired MyWork Links. My
organization wants to avoid implementing customizations with creating a custom
MyWork Link. However, I would like to somehow still get the information I need with the
dynamic drill downs.
■ Traditional Solution: Add a related content link to a page. Run multiple queries to
gather information or look up information via links or traditional navigation.
■ With Drilling URLs: I can view all the information I need and, I can click on a Drilling
URL to open another window with detailed information– all from the same query results!
Example – Drilling Query
1. What information am I looking for?
▪ Example – PO Header Detail, Journal Detail etc.
2. When analyzing the above information, what would be helpful for me to also see
into?
▪ PO Line Detail, Vendor etc.
Pre Set-Up Tasks
1. Set up your primary PSQuery
2. Create an Expression selecting Drilling URL
— Query URL
— External URL
— Free Form URL
— Component URL
— Attachment URL
— Image URL
Set up Query Drilling URLs – Component URL
Set up Query Drilling URLs
5. Enter Menu Name, Market,
Component, Page and Menu
Actions
o If unknown, navigate to the
page you are trying to link in
and CTRL Shift + J
6. Select Search Keys
o Search Keys are the same keys
that are available to look up the
transaction.
o Note: When you are
updating/adding URL Keys make
sure the selection flag is checked
7. Select Map Columns
o Map the column where you want
the hyperlink to reside.
Benefits
■ Fill in GAPs of delivered to desired My Work links – get the drill downs you want!
■ Reduce # of clicks to reach desired information, this saves time and time = $
■ Reduce # of queries you have to store in your Queries section this helps declutter
your WorkCenter

Drilling Component URL in PeopleSoft Query: Linking Pages to Query
Thursday July 23rd 3:30 – 4:20pm
International Ballroom B
Have your users ever needed to review/update transactions after running a query? Do they need contextual
information related to the query they just ran? By providing hyperlinks within query results, users are able to perform
actionable tasks related to results. In this deep dive session we will demonstrate how YOU can use PeopleSoft’s 9.2
Query Manager Tool to link query results to other pages within the PeopleSoft application.
Improving User Experience
■ Problem: I am a managerial power user and my daily tasks span across several
modules' WorkCenters.
■ Traditional Solution: Via traditional (menu) navigation I would navigate to the different
modules WorkCenters to view and complete my work.
■ With WorkCenter Tabs: I can easily flip back and forth between the various
WorkCenters to complete my daily work all while they remain across my screen. I can
also navigate to other pages outside of the WorkCenters and they will still appear
across my screen.
1. Create your WorkCenters
2. Import Grant Thornton’s incredibly small bolt-on to dynamically show WorkCenters
as Homepage tabs
3. Create a Homepage tab in Portal Structure & Content (Root > Portal Objects >
Homepage > Tabs) and configure it to point to the WorkCenter’s Content Reference
Link and set up Security
-Specify Usage Type as Homepage Tab
-Set the sequence number
Set Up WorkCenter Tabs
4. Log out and back in and voila! WorkCenters now show up as Homepage tabs.
■ BONUS: If you sequence a WorkCenter homepage tab ahead of the delivered My
Page homepage tab, users with access to that WorkCenter are automatically
redirected to the WorkCenter upon login!
■ Further improve user experience
▪ more opportunities for end-user personalization – further
bringing most relevant and applicable work to the user
■ Further increase efficiency and productivity
■ Further pushing the work to the user vs them having to pull for it.
