ACTIVITY TEACHING POINTS

TURNOVER TO BACKDEMO MOVE – WATCH DVD

PREREQUISITESAll basic landings and shapes.

ORIENTATIONForward Roll – mats or bed.Forward roll – stop in a back landing position.

PROGRESSIONS1. H & K push up to pyramid2. H&K forward roll to back3. H&K Turnover On thin mat with support4. H&K Turnover On thin mat no support5. No Mat On own with/without support6. No Mat Coach stepping in if necessary7. No Mat H&K over to back – up to feet8. No Mat From feet to H&K then turnover to back – to feet

SUPPORTING TIPS:Use one hand on the back of the neck to make sure they don’t land on head.Support with back hand using a judo type belt tied around the waist for the first part of the turnover, then let go of the belt to support the legs on back landing, to ensure they are not too high or too low = ‘crocodile’ catch.

This is another way of teaching/improving the back landing to feet, as it feels quite easy continuing the forward rotation up to feet after a turnover.

Work with a partner when you do not need any support using Individual Learning Aid Card No: 10

• H&K push up to pyramid, then walk feet towards hands and into forward roll.

• On thin mat, bouncing on H&K then rotate around to back landing position, with support initially, then on own.

• On own (stay in back landing position being supported, great core strength exercise).

• Aim to get feet landing back as near to the cross as possible.

• Vision on bed for as long as possible then focus on feet and ceiling in back landing, Shape in mid-air = piked head in line.

• On take off from H&K press tops of feet into bed (like in pyramid) push from hands to keep in centre.

• Hands push into the bed then lift off the trampoline (or it will travel forwards like a forward roll).

• If it over rotates – lifting arms and chest up on take off will slow down the rotation.

EVALUATE & IMPROVE

BACK LANDING

Use a thick mat then thin mat on the bed until the landing is excellent. Working with a partner only do the progressions you have tried with your teacher, NB. Do not attempt new combinations with your partner without your teacher checking out the skills first.

TRAVEL 1. FLAT BACK:2. Do they take off with feet in the middle of the

mat and land with waist on the same spot?3. Can they do 5 x Back bounces?4. Do the bounces stay on the spot?

ROTATION5. Seat to back landing to seat landing to back landing 6. Can they do the back landing through the ‘conversion’

onto a thick mat and stay in the landing position until the bed stops going up and down?

7. Did take off resemble a flat back?

EYES8. What are they looking at during take off?9. Are they watching their feet and then ceiling on landing?

EXECUTION10. Back landing onto a thin mat11. Alternate Flat back then a back landing on a mat12. Do the take-offs look identical?13. Back landing no mat, can they get up to feet?

Compare the DVD ‘back landing’ with your partnersWhat do you do that matches? What do you need to improve?

Conditioning challenge No: 5Pairs- flat back lift on floor keeping body in a straight line, then lower slowly.

Check they are landing on a flat back with head, shoulders and ALL of the back down to hips landing at the same time. Travelling along the bed is because they are landing hips then shoulders or vice versa.

On back landing knees need to be above hips feet pushing up towards ceiling as legs straighten out. The body should be straight on the take off then on the descent piking slowly ready for back landing. If not revise flat backs again.

On take off watching bed then feet as they move forwards to do the flat back.

Learner holds back landing position (this will bounce up and down and gradually stop) until landing is consistent before attempting to come back up to feet. Beat and lock legs on maximum depression to aid the rotation back up to feet. Observing pathway of feet on the DVD then compare with partner, should be low appearing to be a flat back on take off then smoothly converts to back landing in mid-air.

Tutor Conditioning Card – 3Work for 1 to 1 ½ minutes on each card. Start on the basic activity and ask a partner to check the movements are of a high quality before you move on to the next level from Basic – Intermediate – Advanced

Basic: PlankPosition: Hold ‘plank’ position on forearms and toes. Aim for a straight, tight line between shoulders and heels Head in natural line.

Intermediate: Plank On Hands And Feet (Press Up Position)

2. Lift both legs up from floor, using hand on floor if you need to help body keep still. *Alternately Move the legs forward and backwards in a scissors action very slowly without letting the body wob-ble. Rest then swap sides.

1. Hold for 15 -20 -30 seconds or count the num-ber of breaths in and out ,gradually increase the amount of time you hold position before you lower down to the mat. Rest and repeat. Advanced (If The Wrists Are Sore

This Can Be Done On Forearms)

3. Stretch and lift legs out alternately for a num-ber of breathes or seconds. Aiming for a straight long body. *Sideways Avoid arching the spine by lifting the leg too high.

4. Keep the knee cap & hips facing the floor so your leg does not twist. Rest arms whenever you need to by returning foot to floor then lowering down with control.
