As coadjutor, Rojas will assist Bishop Gerald Barnes in the administra"on of the San Bernardino diocese and succeed him as bishop upon his re"rement or death. As we begin another liturgical year, let us reflect on this season of Advent - the season of expecta"on, wai"ng and new beginnings. Advent has been celebrated by Chris"ans since the 6th century. The color of Advent is purple – sugges"ng a repentant or peniten"al quality to the season. More recent theology suggests a medita"ve and prayerful aspect. What can you do to make this "me of year more meaningful? --Take "me out of your day to read Scripture or a devo"on book: Sit quietly, read a passage and let the words wash over you. Does one par"cular word or phrase stand out? Read the passage again. What might God be saying to you through that one word/

phrase? Think about that during the course of your day. --Light the candles of an Advent wreath. It’s a simple and beau"ful tradi"on to mark the four weeks of Advent with the ligh"ng of candles. --Take the opportunity to go to the Sacrament of Reconcilia"on during this season. Look at the ways you may have missed the mark in your rela"onships with God and those with whom you come in contact. --Be generous with your "me, talent and treasure. Who might need assistance? Can you give a friend/rela"ve a call or a visit? What about taking a name card off of the giving tree and dona"ng a gi$ to someone in need? --Give some thought to how you will give birth to Jesus this Christmas. As Chris"ans, we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus on earth. We are called to bring the Good News to everyone we encounter. How do we live out our faith in our families, in our workplace and in our neighborhoods? I wish you a meaningful and peaceful Advent Season and a blessed New Liturgical Year!! Pomyśl w jaki sposób może została przeoczona szansa relacji z Bogiem i z bliźnimi. - Bądź hojny ze swoim czasem, talentem i skarbami. Kto potrzebuje Twojej pomocy? Czy przyjaciel lub krewny czeka na Twoje odwiedziny? A może zakupisz świąteczny prezent dziecku z ubogiej rodziny?

Pomyśl jak Ty uczcisz narodziny Jezusa w te święta. Jako chrześcijanie jesteśmy powołani abyśmy byli rękoma i stopami Jezusa tutaj na ziemi. Jesteśmy wezwani aby przekazywać Dobrą Nowinę każdemu kogo napotkamy.

On Monday evening, November 18, 2019, a�er the business por6on of the mee6ng, the Women's Guild

GOSPEL MEDITATION What does it mean to be worthy? There

are a few different ways to approach this ques"on. Today’s Gospel highlights two: the way of the Pharisees and the

way of John the Bap"st. Our faith values good works and discipleship.

Perhaps, then, we “earn” our worth by adhering to the right doctrines and

following the right pious prac"ce. The Pharisees thought they were worthy.

Due to their religious pedigree and proper procedures, they were self-

sa"sfied. John the Bap"st’s words to them are strong. “Do not resume to say

to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’” Of course, Jesus (and John) don’t omit the responsibility for moral

behavior. John gives the Pharisees quite a strong warning in that regard.

“Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance … every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and

thrown into the fire.” It’s a ques"on of a\tude. Of

disposi"on. It’s a ma#er of the heart. If anyone would be worthy in this

scenario, it’s John the Bap"st. Jesus himself will name him the greatest of

prophets and a great man. John, however, recognizes his own lowly

place in the grand scheme of things. “The one who is coming a$er me is migh"er than I. I am not worthy to

carry his sandals.” The Pharisees take pride in being “be#er” than others.

John embraces humility in Christ being “be#er” than him. We don’t self-generate our own worthiness. We

receive it as a gi$ from God. In a few short weeks, we’ll celebrate

the birth of Christ. Bishop Ven. Fulton Sheen wrote about the Na"vity in his “Life of Christ”: “Because [Jesus] was

born in a cave, all who wish to see Him must stoop. To stoop is the mark of humility. The proud refuse to stoop

and, therefore, they miss divinity.” God invites us to prepare our hearts this

Advent. When you consider your own life, where are you looking for your

worth? This Christmas, are you prepared to stoop?
