Editor’s note: Nancy Osterlund’s information did not make it into the Voter’s Pamphlet for this election, so this is an opportunity for her to address the public.

Osterlund running for OCCC boardI’m Nancy Osterlund, candidate

for the Oregon Coast Community College Board from Zone 4, East Lin-coln County.

Community college can be the bridge between high school and col-lege or the pathway to a career. It provides motivation, inspires con-fidence and reduces the economic burden of a college education.

I can bring an understanding of the education needs of our area to the College Board. I’ve lived in Toledo since 1965. I’ve have a mas-ter’s degree in education and taught high school English for 19 years,

beginning at Siletz High. When the high school closed, I moved with the Siletz students to Toledo High School. I know both communities well.

Many students cannot afford or are not ready for a four-year college. Others prefer a vocation-targeted course of study, while still others need a GED or English as a second language program. Retirees need a forum for exploring their interests. The commu-nity college is there to serve.

I welcome the opportunity to be part of that process. Please mark your ballots for Nancy Osterlund in the May 2015 Special Election by May 19.
