Foreword

Suddenly, around Christmas time, nobody objects. Bells - played or rung – enhance the Christmas atmosphere and appeal to our nostalgia. Latest developments in the asbestos affair

Shortly after the diploma ceremony last June, it was announced that asbestos had been found in the Netherlands Carillon Center building, which also houses the Carillon School. As a cautionary measure, eve-ryone had to leave the building and the school was closed for an in-definite period. During the summer, temporary accommodation was found and, after the necessary construction alterations were made, lessons started again in the second half of September.

Now, a few months later, all the practice keyboards, the furniture, the library and the administration have been cleaned and moved to the temporary premises. During the last few weeks, a specialised asbestos-clearance firm has removed the asbestos and demolished the floors and ceilings in which it was found. This will probably take until the end of December. The building will then be renovated, after which everything can be re-installed. The school will probably move

back to the Grote Spui during the summer holidays.

Meanwhile, the temporary premises in the Arnhem-sestraat in Amersfoort, near the Tower of Our Lady, are proving very suitable. There is a large classroom, which also houses the (nearly unpacked) library. There are also two smaller classrooms, a kitchen, an office and a store-room. The last two, however, can only be reached from a patio outside, so we hope the winter will not be too severe!

The Netherlands Carillon Center is running normally again. The Newsletter was somewhat delayed but orders for sheet music were able to be met, though also with a slight delay.
