2020 Knights of Columbus Scholorship Recipients for the 2020 Knights of Columbus Scholarship are: Madison Schnier, a freshman at Prince of Peace. Graduating seniors include Grant Rickertsen (Northeast) and Nathan Moeller (Prince of Peace). Scholarships are awarded annually to those entering Prince of Peace High School and graduating seniors who are Knights or whose father or grandfather are Knights.

Memorial Day While no public Memorial Day Mass will be offered this year, the Knights of Columbus honored deceased Knights, parishioners of Visitation and Prince of Peace, as well as veterans from the Gateway community. For over 20 years Council 707 has donated flowers for the Vietnam Memorial on the courthouse lawn.

Consecration to the Holy Family We urge parish families to devote themselves to the ideal model of familial love set by Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

O Lord Jesus, You lived in the home of Mary and Joseph in Nazareth.

There you grew in age, wisdom and grace as you prepared to fulfill your mission

as our Redeemer. We entrust our family to you.

All Parishioners are invited to attend an online program to learn more about Knights of Columbus insurance pro-grams. Call or email Dean at [email protected] or 503-9872 or Dave Meyer at [email protected] or 259-1542.

Welcome, Isaac Doucette! We are happy to welcome Isaac Doucette, a seminar-ian from our Diocese, who will be with us at Prince of Peace from May 26th until July 31st. Isaac is in his sec-ond year of theological studies at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois. He hopes to be or-dained in 2022. Isaac grew up attending Saint Mary’s Church in Iowa City when Father Ken was Pastor there. For several years, he was one of Father Ken’s altar servers. Hopefully, you will have the opportunity to meet Isaac during his time with us. We will definitely have him as an acolyte and lector at our Masses. He will also do some Scripture reflections and present vari-ous talks. Please keep Isaac and all of our seminarians in your prayers. Pray also that more vocations will come forth from our parish and from the Diocese to serve our church in the future.

O Mary,

you always brighten our path of salvation

and of hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, health of the sick,

who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain

while remaining steadfast in faith.

O loving Mother, you know what we need,

and we are confident you will provide for us

as at Cana in Galilee.

Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician,

for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable,

and for those who have died.

Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and

safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick

and seeking a cure.

Help us, O Mother of Divine Love,

to conform to the will of the Father

and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows,

so as to lead us, through the Cross,

to the glory of the Resurrection.

Amen.

Under thy protection we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God.

In our needs, despise not our petitions,

but deliver us always from all dangers,

O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

(Adapted from the prayer of Pope Francis)

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION

IN TIME OF PANDEMIC

AN ACT OF

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus,

I believe that you are present

in the most Blessed Sacrament.

I love you above all things

and I desire to receive you into my soul.

Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there,

and unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you.

Amen.

May 24, 2020 - The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord

Today, we celebrate the great feast of the

Ascension of our Lord, that glorious

moment when Jesus, 40 days after his

resurrection, was lifted up — quite liter-

ally— into heaven, as the apostles

watched in stunned amazement. It is

recounted in both our first reading from

Acts as well as the Gospel passage from

Matthew. It must have been an extraordi-

nary thing to witness.

But the first reading tells us that the

apostles were not permitted to simply

bask in the moment for very long.

“While they were looking intently at the

sky as he was going, suddenly two men

dressed in white garments stood beside

them. They said, 'Men of Galilee, why

are you standing there looking at the

sky?'”

In other words, “Don’t just stand there,

do something!”

This verse is a call to each one of us Christian stewards this very day. We have been

given every grace and blessing through the Mass and all of the sacraments, through

the Word of God, the rich teachings of our faith, and even our talents and our material

possessions.

And like those first apostles, we are not meant to just stand here, but to do something

with these gifts — in love and gratitude to the one who gave them to us. We are

called, just as much as the first apostles “to be his witnesses… to the ends of the

earth,” not with our own power, but through the power of the Holy Spirit in us.
