During the Autumn term, we spent a lot of time reflecting on what 'shine' means to us: What does it mean
to shine? It's been lovely to see so many examples of this being sent in by you to add to our shine board
in the main corridor outside my office. It's touching to see so many pupils and staff stopping to look at the
photos of our children shining and how, through these, we can see that you can shine quietly too; whether
that's when helping others, supporting a charity or simply bringing a smile to others.
You will see on this week's newsletter and on our website and Facebook page that our 'shine' banner has
been updated and this is thanks to our pupils sharing their understanding and views through worship
time. During worship we looked at several quotes from the bible about 'shining' and, through a vote and
reflective discussions, we have agreed that 'Let your light shine before others' feels right for our
school. We are a school where we want everyone's light to shine, whatever that light is so we've added
this to our vision statement.
This week’s attendance is 96% and classes
RE, 5D and 6E have the highest attendance at 99%.
Thank you to everyone for working hard on ensuring that
your child attends school regularly and arrives on time.

forthcoming events and important dates.

If you have a photo of your child shining, we'd
love to add it to our display. Please e mail this to
[email protected] with a little
information about how your child has shone.
In Ex-days, we will be mathematicians,
historians and artists. We will be learning about the
Chinese New Year legend, writing numbers in Mandarin
and creating shadow puppets.
We are aware some of you are having issues with regards
to logging into SchoolMoney and making payments. We
are currently working with Eduspot to rectify the issue.
But for now, if you are having issues, please come along
and see Nikki or Steph at the office who will be happy to
take payments via cash, card or cheques (made out to
Falmouth MAT).

On Friday 24th January, King Charles is holding an
Active Travel to school day. This is being organised
as part of the Sustrans schools programme to
promote active travel to school to encourage pupils,
parents and staff to choose walking, scooting or
cycling for their journey to and from school. The
day will start with an Active Travel top up
breakfast. From 8.20 to 8.50am, there will be
healthy drinks and snacks for all pupils and
parents/carers who scoot, walk or cycle to school.
A key part of our school's safeguarding procedures
is keeping the site safe. Part of this means that
when parents and visitors are on site, we will either
ask you to walk around to the main office to gain
entry to the building or will escort you through the
building. Please don't be offended if we ask you to
do this - this is to ensure that everyone is
safe. Adults without suitable checks are not
allowed to wander freely through the school which
we know you will agree is important.
Thanks for your support in keeping our school safe.
We are delighted to welcome Samantha Farnworth
to our King Charles family. Samantha is a higher
level teaching assistant who has lots of experience
working with children who have additional needs.
She will be supporting Debbie Byrom in her role as
SENCO; working to support all of our children who
have additional needs within the school.
Looking forward to the week ahead (week beginning Mon 20th January) …
As explorers we will be finding out about the traditions of Chinese New Year, creating our own lanterns, fans and tasting Chinese food and drink.
As musicians, we are going to be working as a team in our weekly Samba drum lesson. We are learning about rhythms and how these rhythms create music.
As historians, we can't wait to explore the similarities and differences between Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. As scientists, we are looking forward to learning more about forces.
As artists we are looking forward to sketching Packet Ships.
As writers, we are looking forward to writing exciting newspaper reports about The Plague!
As readers, we will be developing our skills of inference, prediction and explanation through film studies. As writers and performers, we will also be exploring performance poetry.

After a lot of hard work, determination and
training, Anakin from 6J was awarded his
black belt 1st Dan in Taekwondo just before
Christmas. For this he even had to learn a bit
of Korean! Well done Anakin!
Well done to Lily from 6J who, together with
her Falmouth under 12’s team competed in a
tournament in Liskeard where they won 2 out
of their 3 games, drawing in the other. Kelly,
their coach will be taking our Friday after
school hockey club so if you are interested in
playing for Falmouth under 12’s, come along
and have a chat with her.
All of our children have settled back into the life and work of our three schools well and thank
you for your continued support in ensuring that they are ready for school.
As a trust we are pleased with the academic performance of each of our schools. The trust board
and I were particularly delighted to note that St Francis C of E Primary, is in the top 10 Primary
School in Cornwall for attainment and progress in 2018-19. I’m sure you’d want to join us all in
congratulating Mrs Stevens, the Headteacher and her brilliant team for this wonderful
achievement.
This term we have seen some changes in our small central team who work for the multi-academy
trust. We will be saying goodbye to Tom Trounson who is one of our IT technicians. Tom is well
known in our three schools as he is often around repairing computers and making sure the
printers are
working. To replace Tom, we welcome back to our trust Zac Clarke.
We have also welcomed Kathryn Galloway to our MAT governance and admin team and Dawn
McColl who is our new HR officer and acts as my P.A. If you need to get in contact with me, you
can now do this through Dawn on [email protected]
Carly Brooker is the new SENCO at Falmouth School and has had a very busy first two weeks in
post. It is Carly’s intention to the primary schools to meet parents and pupils in the near future.
Managing our budgets and finances is a responsible job that we take extremely seriously! Last
week, we hosted a visit from a School Resource Management Adviser who works for the
Education and Skills Funding Agency.
He took a careful look at our budgeting, met our headteachers and trust accountant. We found
his visit very helpful and his feedback about our trust was generally positive. He said that:
Our trust and schools are in a healthy financial position and this is leading to strong
educational outcomes.
He could reassure the School’s Regional Commissioner and ESFA of our financial
competence.
I would like to thank our headteachers and our trust accountant Nikki Stone for the preparation
and support for this visit.
