Continuous flow

The Stranda Duplo fish pump has been developed to pump live fish in a gentle manner. The inlets of the vacuum tanks are cone shaped, to form a water slide from the inlet valve to the bottom of the tank. The inlet valve is not making any restriction on the incoming water and fish, so the fish flows into the pump without being damaged. The inlet manifold is designed with specially made T-pieces with larger bend radii for the fish.

The overall function of the pump, is that one tank has pressure lower than atmosphere, to suck in fish and water from the input pen/tank, and the other tank has overpressure to push the water and fish on to the delivery position. The tanks are run in cycle almost like a 2-stroke 2-cylinder engine.

The valve box, joins the flow from the two fish tanks into one common pipeline. It has a level control algorithm which is used to run the pump on autopilot to compensate for varying back-pressure. The back-pressure variation may be quite large between high tide and low tide in some applications. This autopilot function makes sure the fish is not damaged in the outlet valve even under varying flow and back pressure conditions.

The power packs for vacuum and pressure comes installed on a sturdy stainless steel skid, complete with cooling water system, air cycle manifold and silencer for exhaust to the atmosphere. The pumps are directly driven through a flexible shaft coupling, and the electrical motor is driven by a frequency inverter. The units are operating quite silently, and the exhaust air is particularly silent. The cycle manifold has automatic butterfly valves to direct the air to the right place in the cycle.
