Are you ready for the next step?With these words introduce the Dunya Festivalon May 29, 2011 the public. The Dunya Festivalis anno 2011 on the eve of a new phase. Thefestival shakes since 2011 the term world music

from him and thus conotatie of dusty, folkloreand traditional music festival. Dunya is preferredpositions this year as a music festival that bringsthe music of now. Dunya is a term thatintroduces himself and said basically everything:music of the moment which all global trends and

developments come together. New forms of music born from an amalgamation of allthese cultures and new cultures have become part of our society. In the traditionalworld music and pure form theyre no longer suitable for a large public event like theDunya. Dunya Festival and thus manifests himself with new forms of music fromaround the world resulting from the fusion of cultures. That is now obvious that we

now show.

In 1969 traveled Adriaan van der Staay, then director of the Rotterdam ArtFoundation, and Martin Mooij, head of literature at the Arts Council, to England forthe London International Poetry Festival to attend. During their visit did Mooij andVan der Staay the inspiration and the necessary contacts for the following year asimilar event in Rotterdam. Twenty-three poets, including the Pole Zbigniew Herbert,the Frenchman Eugene Guillevic and the Austrian Ernst Jandl poems were invited tocontribute to the concert hall of the Targets. In the following years the RotterdamPoetry International Festival has grown steadily into a leading international poetryfestival and an important meeting place for hundreds of poets and their audience. In1977, on the first day of the festival Rotterdam only read when the statue of poetHendrik Tollens in The Park (near the Euromast). This presentation which was a verymixed audience, proved a winning formula. The opening day, or Poetry Park,became the great and famous Dunya Festival.

In 1987, Poetry International an independent organization headed by Martin Mooij.The International Poetry Foundation expanded its activities, including a collaborationwith the Rotterdam Roteb waste disposal company. The Festival moved to Rotterdam De Doelen Theatre in 1997 and began theChildren's Poetry for elementary students. In 2000 the election of Poetry and theLaureate was introduced. Poetry became an important poetry day in the Netherlandsand Flanders, and is considered by many as a success. With the advent of the newdirector Bas Kwakman various projects in 2003 were continued. He initiated arelationship between poetry and visual art project with the Poetry & Art. Since 2004the Festival provides a stage for the World Poetry Slampionhip, international poetryslam championships.

our utmost to achieve.

I think Dunya is a wonderful festival because all kinds of different cultures cometogether and party with each other. Besides that the music is from an amazing highlevel. Alain Clark is very popular, and Ziggi Recado is performing in America!
