ABOUT THE CITY AND AIRPORT CONNECTIVITY NAME OF THE AIRPORT (STATE) : DUMKA AIRPORT, JHARKHAND STATE (A) ABOUT THE CITY :

(I) INTRODUCTION : Dumka is a city and a municipality in Dumka District of Jharkhand State. Dumka is headquarters of Dumka district it is the sub-capital of the state as well. The city has a rich cultural heritage, being occupied since the Stone Age. Dumka has a predominantly undulating terrain with hard rocks under the ground. The entire district has topography with high ridges and valleys bounded by mountains and rivers. The soil fertility is poor due to extensive erosion, acidity and low retaining capacity. The Dumka district consists of only one subdivision namely Dumka. Under the Dumka subdivision there are 10 blocks namely Dumka, Gopikander, Jama, Jarmundi, Kathikund, Maslia, Ramgarh, Ranishwar, Ranibahal, Shikaripara and Saraiyahat.

(II) ABOUT THE DISTRICT POPULATION, ECONOMY, INDUSTRY & TOURISM POTENTIAL :

POPULATION : According to 2011 census the population of Dumka District was 13,21,096 ECONOMY : Dumka district is situated in the North Eastern part of Jharkhand state. The district is situated in the Northern Plain of India and eastern plateau and hill region. The soil of the district is more or less fertile and mixture of red clays and sandy soil. The water holding capacity of the soil is poor but suitable for agriculture and crops production. Black soil is also found in some areas of the district. The soil is rich in quartz, feldspar, stone and other minerals In 2006, the Indian government named Dumka one of the country's 250 most backward districts out of a total of 640. It is one of the 21 districts in Jharkhand currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF). INDUSTRY : There are Micro & Small Enterprises and Artisan Units in the District which plays a crucial role in districts economy. Around 200 Micro & Small enterprises are based on agro based products which in total generate a capital investment of 6 Crores. There are 2,241 Micro & Small Enterprises which in total generates a capital investment of 90 Crores, which leads to an employment of 10,086 people. There are no large scale industries, Public Sector Undertakings (PSU’s) or Medium Scale industry in the Dumka District.

TOURISM POTENTIAL : There are several popular sites around Dumka that can be developed to attract more tourists. Dumka District has many popular temples like Basukinath, Sirshanath, Maruti Mandir and

Dharamsthana. Baba Basukinath & Baba Sumeshwarnath is famous temple of Lord Shiva. In the month of Shravanthousands of people visit from different parts of India and from other countries visit Basukinath to worship Lord Shiva. Besides the above Masanjore Dam, Tatloi, Water Park, Shrishti Hill Park and Malooti are the famous tourist place in Dumka district having beautiful, attractive & greenish natural atmosphere. Malooti is a historical and religious place which is situated in Sikaripara Block on Dumka-Rampur hat.
