Dear Parents,
I am extremely excited to begin our Term 3 Co-Curricular Senior School Activity programme at Dulwich College Puxi for the academic year 2018-19. There will be a wide range of activities for your children to take part in and the College will be working with a number of external providers to give your children the very best in quality and opportunity.
The Dulwich College Puxi Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) Programme- Term 3 In Senior School, pupils will take part in daily co-curricular activities from 1.05-1.50pm which will include a variety of enrichment opportunities. Optional after school externally provided Co Curricular Activities (CCAs) will run for 6 weeks from Monday 15th April to Friday 31st May. These activities will start at 3.45pm and finish at 4.40pm. Pupils should be collected by parents if they are attending after school CCAs. Buses will leave school at 3.45pm and there will be no late buses for pupils taking part in after school CCAs. Please check carefully and be aware that some activities will finish later than 4.40pm at 5pm, 5.15pm and 5.30pm. Please check the activity dates on page 4 so you are aware of dates when activities will not take place. Schools Buddy Sign Up for Term 3 CCAs Please use Schools Buddy to sign up for your child’s CCAs. You should complete both the daily and after school CCA sign up through Schools Buddy. Sign ups will need to be completed before Wednesday 27th March. The Schools Buddy app can be downloaded on apple and android under Schools Buddy.
*If your child has been selected or invited to attend a practice or activity, they will be informed by the member of staff in charge and the SchoolsBuddy registration will only be open to the selected pupils for these activities. Please ensure your child does not sign up for other activities on these days. CCAs on offer in the Senior School Your child can view their options via this booklet or by logging on to Schools Buddy. Types of Activity- Year 6 to 9 Pupils
These activities are purely for pupils to have fun and enjoyment. There is no pressure on development and the
activities will involve enjoying playing with friends and working with others with
no pressure on competition.
These activities focus on pupils developing their skill level and have
elements of competition. These CCAs will involve working towards an end goal
during the term and the expectation is that pupils work hard to improve their
ability in these CCAs.
These activities are by selection only and involve representing school
squads/groups/commitees. A commitment to training/meetings and competition against other schools is
required*

Activity Year Day Summary
Creative Writing
6-9 Monday Join Mr McLaughlin who will lead a creative writing club that goes outside the bounds of normal professional, journalistic and academic forms of literature.
Creative writing typically identifies an emphasis on narrative craft and character development and the use of traditions of poetry and poetics.
School Newspaper
6-9 Monday A student led activity that will involve creating a school newspaper. Led by one of our Year 8 students the paper will cover various topics such as current affairs,
opinion pieces, students take on events and poems of the week.
Baking Club
6-9 Monday A student led activity that will involve one of our Year 8 students leading baking supported by Mrs Prozesky and Mrs Eskander. Pupils will have the opportunity to
bake and create during this CCA slot.
Anime/Manga Comic creation
6-9 Monday One of our Year 8 students will lead a student activity on creating comics. Manga are Japanese comics that involve cartoons and were developed in Japan in the
19th century. An exciting opportunity.
Eco Club
6-9
Monday
The eco garden is growing and we need our students to continue to develop the
eco garden. They will help to grow plants and help preserve the environment. Pupils in Y6-9 can join the eco club. This club will also involve the Y9 pupils
running the pioneering project.

Free Time
6-9 Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday & Thursday
As senior students, free time is important and during this term our students will have the chance to select free time during the daily CCA slot. During this time, they can sit and relax, spend time with friends, visit staff to get advice or spend
the time reading and studying. It is entirely up to the students.
Cooking Club
6-9 Monday A student led activity that will involve one of our Year 9 students leading cooking supported by Mrs Prozesky and Mrs Eskander. Pupils will have the opportunity to
bake and create during this CCA slot.
Boyd Basketball Squad
6-9 Tuesday This is for selected basketball squad pupils only. Mr Leaver will select the squad and inform pupils. Squad members will train for the CISSA competition, training will take place on Mondays and games on Thursdays after school. This training
session will take place during the daily CCA slot for extra practice.
Senior School Choir
6-9 Tuesday The choir at Dulwich Puxi is a strength of the College. Optional senior school choir practice will take place on Thursdays during the daily CCA slot. Mr Haslett
will advise pupils who he would like to take part in choir and we endeavor to ensure that our choir in senior school remains an important part of the growing
College.
Adventure Games- Leadership
6-9 Tuesday Miss Stewart will choose adventure games leaders to help her run adventurous activities with the junior school students. If you would like to be involved then sign up for adventure games and you will become a leader to set up and carry
out outdoor adventurous activities such as scavenger hunts, team building games and outdoor pursuits. This will help develop key leadership skills.

Senior Student Council
6-9 Wednesday The student council is led by the head and deputy head student. The senior student council will meet each week to discuss school issues and the council is the voice of the students. As the senior student council, their views will have an important bearing on the way the school is shaped and how the College sets its
goals for the future.
Dance Club
6-9 Wednesday The dance club will be led by one of our senior school students. Join in and develop your dance moves which will help to promote fitness, health and well
being.
Senior School Commitees
6-9 Wednesday Opportunites to join student committees have been developed from the student council in Term 2. This has led to the development of sustainability, academic and pastoral commitees. Mrs King will work with the council to develop these
commitees in Term 3 and she will be asking for you to help develop these areas of the senior school.
Indoor 5 a side Football
6-9 Thursday Mr Zarate will be running 5 a side indoor football with the senior school students during this daily CCA. 5 a side is a fast paced game that involved skill and speed
as well as good tactical awareness and positioning.
Make Your Mark
6-9 Thursday Join Miss Sneath and ‘Make Your Mark’ at school by creating artistic paintings around the College. If you enjoy art then this is a must! Leave your mark on
Dulwich Puxi!
Sole Club
6-9 Thursday Dulwich Puxi officially opened the first International schools Self Organised Learning Environment in November. Join the SOLE club and work in the SOLE
lab. A fantastic opportunity to be involved in the development of SOLE at Dulwich Puxi as it becomes a big part of our curriculum.

Chinese Editor Club
6-9 Thursday The aim of the Chinese editor club is to develop a Chinese newspaper. Pupils will write essays, collate information from around the College and put this together to
form the College Chinese newspaper.
Senior School Well Being
6-9 Friday Well Being sessions for all Senior School students with class mentors take place every Friday.

If your child has been selected for the senior swim squad there will be a number of morning and afternoon sessions that your child can
choose to train. There is a commitment of 2 sessions per week. The College will enter a number of galas against other International
schools in Shanghai in Term 3.
Rounders

If you love rounders then join the rounders club. Pupils will take part in batting, bowling and fielding and fun games. They will learn the
rules of rounders and will compete in teams. Rounders is an exciting game that is enjoyed by pupils of all ages.
Earthquakes Football

Wednesday 3.45-5.15
Join the poular Earthquakes football programme as they develop their programme at Dulwich College Puxi. Earthquakes offer two
days for training. Pupils will be given an Earthquakes football kit and will be coached by highly qualified football coaches.

Mad Science

Your child will be exposed to a vast array of experiments to generate scientific curiosity and creativity. Expect your child to have lots of fun
and excitement developing their love for Science and the world around them.

Music ABRSM- Advanced
6-9 Monday 3.45-4.40
This course is aimed at students who have reached the level of
musical instruments equivalent to the level of ABRSM 3 or above. The objective of this course is to help students better prepare
ABRSM Music Theory exam.This course is helpful to their sight-reading,listening,rhythm, creativity in basic composing and to taking
their musical skills to higher level. *This is an externally provided paid activity
Swim Club
6 Monday & Wednesday

Our junior swim club programme will be available two days a week for pupils in Year 6. This is a chance for beginner and moderate
ability swimmers to learn and develop their swimming ability and confidence in the water.
Synchronised Swimming

Friday 3.45-5.15
An amazing opportunity for your child to take part in the Olympic sport of synchronsied swimming. Your child can be part of the
Dulwich Puxi team that will hopefully go on to compete in competitions.
*This is an externally provided paid activity *Pupils must meet the required standard of swimming to take part in this activity. Your child needs to be a strong swimmer and should be able to
tread water for 2 minutes to participate in this CCA.
Advanced Fencing
6-9 Tuesday 3.45-4.40
A fantastic opportunity for our pupils to enjoy the Olympic sport of fencing. Your children will have the chance to receive training from an expert fencing coach and will learn the basics of the sport with a view
to competing for the College in the future. This is an advanced session specifically for our senior and advanced fencing students.

Senior Cricket Club
6-9 Tuesday 3.45-4.40 Boys and girls in Y6-9 can take join the cricket club to practice and
develop their skills of batting, bowling and fielding.
Open Swim Squad Endurance Training
6-9 Tuesday 3.45-5.00
Tuesday will provide an opportunity for junior and senior squad swimmers who would like to put in some extra time in the pool. Pupils
will be set a task to achieve during this session and the session will focus on developing endurance and technique over speed.
Irish Band
6-9 Tuesday 3.45-4.40 Pupils can join the Irish band club where they will play traditional Irish
music and traditional Irish instruments.
Girls Netball Squad

This is for selected Y7-9 netball squad pupils only. Miss Stewart will select the squad and inform pupils. Squad members will train for the
the U13 and U15 netball competitions in Term 3 on both Tuesday and Thursdays. Games will take place on Saturdays.
Painting and Calligraphy
6-9 Wednesday 3.45-4.40 Join our external Chinese painting and calligraphy teacher to develop
your imagination and creativity in the art of Chinese art. *This is an externally provided paid activity
Jazz Dance

Sport for Life lead our dance programme at Dulwich Puxi. Your child can join the JAZZ dance group and experience afro-american
dancing that connects tap dancing, ballet and jazz. If your child enjoys dancing they will love this CCA.

Floorball

An extremely popular sport at Dulwich College Puxi. Floorball is a form of hockey played with plastic sticks, it is fast, furious and extremely
exciting. A great sport that all of the pupils thoroughly enjoy. *This is an externally provided paid activity

College Orchestra

The college orchestra is a real strength of our College and will be selected by Mr Haslett. They will practice on Wednesday after school.
If students are selected, this is a compulsory session that pupils will be required to attend.
Music ABRSM-Beginner
6-9 Thursday 3.45-4.40
ABRSM Music Theory is to help children understand the essential of how music works and fits together. This lesson is for the students who are learning to play a
musical instrument and plan to take ABRSM exam in the future.This lesson is focusing on all-around musicianship ,through the lesson students will develop their notation, listening,musical perception and improve the efficiency of daily practice
and to taking their musical skills to higher level.

Film Making

Film making CCA will introduce students to the use of professional quality video cameras, green room techniques and digital editing.
Students will create a film as a group and present it in the theatre to the school.
Chess

Chess is a board game of strategic skill. The SCA chess company will develop our pupils skills and show them tips and tricks to become
top chess performers. *This is an externally provided paid activity
Boys Football
6 Thursday 3.45-4.40 An opportunity for the boys to continue to develop their football
skills by participating in the boys football club. The club will involve skill practices and game play as a recreational activity.
Kayaking
6-9 Thursday 3.45-4.40 Senior school pupils have the chance to take part in the fun sport of kayaking. Pupils can enjoy learning the basic skills of kayaking and
have fun in the pool in the Dulwich Puxi house coloured kayaks.

Taekwondo

A very popular sport at Dulwich College Puxi. Pupils will develop their ability to perform taekwondo moves and will work towards
gaining awards. They will develop their discipline and core stability and understanding of this Olympic sport.

Golf

Your child can join our fantastic golf programme. Pupils will learn the basics of golf and develop their swing, putting and knowledge of the
game. During the term pupils will experience playing at Hongqiao golf course and our better performers may be able to compete

Skateboarding

Skateboarding is a sport that involves riding and performing tricks on a board. Pupils will work towards an exam at the end of the term and
become confident skateboarders. A great and very cool sport to enjoy and experience.

A very popular sport at Dulwich Puxi and an opportunity for our senior school students to play recreational badminton, learn skills and have lots of fun competing against each other. They may even get to
play against some of the teachers!
Volleyball

An opportunity for our senior school pupils to develop their skills and to enjoy the fantastic game of volleyball that involves speed,
strength, power and teamwork. A great game that our pupils will have fun taking part in.
Film Club
6-9 Friday 3.45-5.30 Friday film club will be a chance for pupils to relax and watch a film. A
great way to end the week and enjoy some popcorn!

Year 6 Co Curricular Activities In Year 6, pupils will take part in daily co curricular activities from Monday to Friday- 1.05-1.50pm. If your child has been selected for the student council or a committee then they will be informed by the member of staff in charge. There will also be a number of after school co curricular activities that pupils in Year 6 can attend from 3.45-4.40pm. If you would like your child to participate in any after school activities, please complete the sign up on Schools Buddy by Wednesday 27th March. If your child is attending an externally provided activity, payment should be made directly to the coach before the first session takes place. Your child will not be able to participate if payment is not made. Payment details can be found on page 27 and 28 *Please check the finish times of the activities as some CCAs finish later than 4.40pm.

Year 7, 8 and 9 Co Curricular Activities In Year 7, 8 and 9, pupils will take part in daily co curricular activities from Monday to Friday- 1.05-1.50pm. If your child has been selected for the student council or a committee then they will be informed by the member of staff in charge. There will also be a number of after school co curricular activities that pupils in Year 7-9 can attend from 3.45-4.40pm. If you would like your child to participate in any after school activities, please complete the sign up on Schools Buddy by Wednesday 27th March. If your child is attending an externally provided activity, payment should be made directly to the coach before the first session takes place. Your child will not be able to participate if payment is not made. Payment details can be found on page 27 and 28 *Please check the finish times of the activities as some CCAs finish later than 4.40pm.

Earthquakes Puxi Football Academy During season 3 of the Earthquakes Puxi 2018-19, there will be the opportunity to attend weekly sessions on Monday and Wednesday from 3.45-5.15pm and weekend sessions on Sundays. Your child can attend one or two sessions per week. Academy pupils will be informed by Mr Heaney and will be asked to attend two sessions per week on Monday and Wednesday. When registering your child it is important you make it clear which session they will attend. Cost: One session per week (Monday or Wednesday)- 660rmb Two sessions per week (Monday and Wednesday)- 1320rmb *Academy Class (By invitation only Monday & Wednesday)- 1320rmb Selected pupils to be informed Please email [email protected] to register your child and confirm your child’s training day.
