The time has come when I had to make a decision. Effective 2020 I will be stepping down as President of the chapter I love so much. This does not mean I am going away but changing my direction. I leave behind extremely talented board members that I am confident that they will take our chapter to new heights! I am confident that whoever takes my place will do an exceptional job. I want all of our members to support our 2020 board. Our chapter is a collective of members willing to step up and take the wheel. We are lucky that way. A Bit from the “ViP”

Fall Greetings! We’ve had a very busy month with the Toy and Food Run and then the surprise announcement by Judy of her decision and necessity to take a break from ABATE. Personally for Linda and I, we are going to miss having her around to lead the chapter and stir the pot in Springfield. I’ve had the pleasure of serving DuKane and our members for almost 2 years now and I can’t wait to see what next year brings us. Next up elections! We will be accepting nominations at our Novem-ber general meeting on Tuesday, November 19

th for the following posi-

tions: President, Secretary, BOD Rep., Newsletter Editor, Events Coordinator, Safety & Education, Webmaster, and Road Captain (vacant-1 yr-odd year election). There is

a bit of confusion on the nomination process and elections because the past 3 years were not handled consistently the same. This is a priority for straightening out and we’ll be taking a look at the bylaws and policies to make sure this is handled correctly going forward. Elections will take place at our December 17

Hello fellow DuKane Members! What a Toy Run!! The DuKane A.B.A.T.E. 33rd Annual Toy and Food Run was an absolute awesome success. All of the DuKane BOD members, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and more we’re the backbone of this great event! Thank you to you all!! Knucklehead’s was an awesome host, so thank you to Dan and Betsy! The parade – escorted by the Kane County Sheriff’s Department with blocking help from Elburn Police Department and Maple Park Police Department – was HUGE! Up-on arrival to the Sycamore Speedway, the tail of the parade hadn’t even hit Maple Park yet. That’s just insane and it was an amazing sight to behold! Big thanks go out to Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain, Brian Demeter, Elburn Police Chief Nick Sikora, and Maple Park Police Chief Dean Stiegemeier for all of their assistance to this run and getting us to the Sycamore Speedway safe. Tons of thanks also goes to the Sycamore Speedway for hosting this event and opening their property to us for this event. They we’re awesome! The Nick Bell Band, Heartless, and Ashley Victoria absolutely rocked both stages for the event. We had a bunch of amazing vendors. And, how awesome was the burn out competition?! Congrats to Ryan Sauber for winning the tro-phy for the best burn out after blowing the tire off of his bagger. Also, congrats to Fox River Harley-Davidson for winning the trophies for the most off-site registrations and most food donations and to Heritage Harley-Davidson for winning the trophy for most toy donations. So many toys and food were donated to children in need this Christmas and we have all of you to thank for that. Without you all, this event doesn’t happen, so THANK YOU!!!!

On a different topic, as everyone knows, 2020 is fast approaching. One district to watch will be United State Congress Illinois District 14, currently held by Lauren Underwood. Patty Smith had a meet-ing with Lauren Underwood to discuss A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois is-sues Autonomous Vehicles, Ethanol, and Motorcyclist Profiling to name a few. I had a meeting with one of the candidates to run against her, Catalina Lauf and discussed the same issues. Let’s just say that the results and thoughts were on the complete opposite ends of the spectrum. If you’d like to know how these meetings went, feel free to contact myself or Patty Smith.

Amanda and myself head to Springfield on January 10th for the A.B.A.T.E. PAC Grading Session meeting, so keep your eyes out for those results. Remember, the A.B.A.T.E. PAC Voters Guide is just that. At this time last year (10/1/18) A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois had 7,104 members we now have 6,340. That is a loss of 764 members or about 10.75%. DuKane had 293 and at 10/1/19 we had 295. It looks like a small gain of 2, but it’s a gain. The good news to all this for DuKane is that during the month of October we had 12 new members join us, and 9 members renew or extend their memberships. The even better news is that we had 6 members renew at the Toy Run that had expired in 2016, 2017 or 2018. Next year we will be going back through our ex-pired membership listing and reaching out to past members to ask them to re-join. DuKane’s current process for renewing expiring memberships: An email requesting they re-
