COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS
COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS
• Parents communicate with us and we with them through:• Student’s planner• The parents can write notes, questions,
etc.• The English teacher reads the notes• If they are addresses to the Spanish
teacher I see them and respond during recess or lunch
COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS
• Email• It is the easiest way to
communicate• They can write whenever• We also write to them about
concerns or questions we may have
• We email to communicate any progress a student has made
COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS
• After school• Before and during school is not a
good time to communicate with parents
• If it is not an emergency parents can come and talk to us after school.
COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS
• Anytime a parent needs to speak with one of us, we are both present• It creates support for each other• It can prevent problems• The other teacher could have some
insights
COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS
• The student is never present when the parents need to talk to the Spanish teacher. • Unless the parent speaks Spanish• The Spanish teacher cannot speak in
English in front of the student!
• We have notes going home frequently about events, help, etc.
• Class blog• Post reminders, notes, documents,
etc.
COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS
• Parent teacher conference is so important• We take that time to get parents caught
up on the progress of their student and show them off.
• We also may discuss any issues that have not been resolved.
• The Spanish teacher gives any notes to the English teacher to discuss with parents.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
• Both classes have the same rules
• Both have the same management system• gold, warning, silver, bronze, time out
• Both get caught up about any problems throughout the day
• Be 100% together on the rewards and consequences we give our students
• Always look to help our students by making changes if we need to
• Students know what to expect in each class, that is clear to them
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
• Students know that either teacher will tell them the same thing
• If we are not sure about how to handle something, we always go to our partner and ask for advice
