Dual Credit: Lessons Learned in Far West Texas
El Paso Community College
Located in the far west end of the state, EPCC’s serves approximately 30,000 students in the El
Paso and Huspeth Counties through our five campus locations. Our students are predominantly:
Hispanic (87%)
Female (57%)
Getting younger (average age 21)
Part-time (69%)
Pursuing academic majors (85%)
Pursuing Associate of Arts degrees (51%)
Taking courses face-to-face (76%)

Dual Credit at EPCCSince 2001
We serve students in 45 high schools in the region
(36 public, 7 private, and 2 charter)
High school students in the region are able to take college courses while in high school in EPCC
Core courses, CTE, and foreign language. The classes can be taught at the high school by an
EPCC credentialed instructor, online with the support of a facilitator, or at any of the five
EPCC campus locations.
Students underrepresented in higher education have the opportunity to
earn an associate degree and a high school diploma in 4 years. Schools apply for
designation to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) every year and must comply with
the TEA Blueprint.
We have three ECHS models: on a college campus, standalone, and school-
within-a-school. 73% of these students earn an associate degree before they
graduate from high school.
