Connections with TV and over-the-air antenna 1. Connect the antenna to the “From

Antenna” jack on this unit using acoaxial RF cable (N).

2. Connect the “To TV (RF)” jack on thisunit to the “Antenna In” jack on yourTV using a coaxial RF cable (R).Your TV must be tuned to the selectedRF Output Channel (Refer to page 8)channel (3 or 4) to display the picture.(default: channel 3).

ORConnect the VIDEO and AUDIO (L/R)jacks on this unit to the video andaudio input jacks on the TV using thevideo (V) and audio (A) cable.

3. Plug the power cord into a powerstrip/surge protector or a wall outlet.

Install GuideThe Install Guide is a convenient way foryou to customize the settings of this unit.When the unit is turned on for the firsttime after connecting the power supply,Install Guide is displayed on the screenautomatically.

Menu OverviewBy using the menu, you can make vari-ous adjustments to menu options such aspicture and sound.

To display and exit the Menu:Press MENU to display the menu. A sec-ond press of Menu will take you back toinitial screen.

To go to the next level: Press i on the remote control.

To go back to the previous level:Press I on the remote control.

Typical Menu Operation1. Press MENU. The menu appears.

2. Use u / U to select the desired optionthen press i or (Select) to move tothe second level.

3. Use U / u to select the seconddesired option then press i to moveto the third level.

4. Use U / u to select the desired settingthen press (Select) to confirm yourselection. Some items require addi-tional steps.

5. Press EXIT to exit the menu.

Setup Menu Features

Auto TuningAutomatically finds all digital channelsavailable through the ‘Antenna In’ sourceand stores all the active channels found.Select “Auto Tuning” option then press

(Select) to start auto tuning.

EZ Add Automatically adds new channels avail-able through the antenna input to thememorized channels already in the chan-nel list. Select “EZ Add” option then press

(Select) to start auto tuning.

A password is required to gain access to AutoTuning and Manual Tuning menu if the LockSystem option is set to “On” (See page 10).

Channel EditChannel Edit allows you to manually addor delete channels from the channel listin memory.

1. Select “Channel Edit” option thenpress (Select) or i.The Channel Edit menu appears.

2. Select a channel on the Channel Editmenu.

3. Press (Select) to add or delete thechannel.

orPress FAV to add the channel to theFavorite Ch. list.

Manual TuningThis feature manually adds or deleteschannels.

1. Select “Manual Tuning” option thenpress (Select) or i.

2. Select a channel to add or delete.

3. Press (Select) to confirm yourselection.

4. Repeat steps 2-3 to add or deleteadditional channels.

Output ChannelIf you use the To TV (RF) jack, selectchannel 3 or 4 to send RF signal fromthe unit to your TV. Your TV must betuned to the selected channel to displaythe picture.

Option Menu Features

ClockEnables the user to set up the clockinformation. Normally, your clock is setusing signals transmitted by DTV sta-tions. Choosing your time zone sets thecurrent time automatically.

TV Aspect RatioSelect your TV type.4:3 – Select when a standard 4:3 TV is

connected.16:9 – Select when a 16:9 wide TV is

connected.

Aspect RatioSelects the screen format for currentchannel. The options displayed differdepending on the TV Aspect Ratio.

LanguageSelect a language for the audio and menu.(English, Spanish, or French)

In the case when a TV station does not send, orsends wrong data and/or information, the unitmay be set to an incorrect time.

Note

The changed aspect ratio is applied only to cur-rent channel.

Note

While watching TV, you can change the aspectratio using ZOOM button on the Remote Control.

Tip

While watching TV, you can select a favorite channel using FAV button on the Remote Control.

Tip

Deleted channels can not be selected with theCH (u/U) buttons.

CaptionAllows you to select an option for display-ing Caption Data from the unit.

Mode – Select “Analog” or “Digital” to usethe analog or digital caption feature. If not, select “Off”.

Analog – Selects a mode for displayingAnalog Caption Data. In the AnalogCaption Service, CC 1-4 display pro-gram’s dialog, and Text 1-4 displaydata service information.

Digital – Selects a mode for displayingDigital Caption Data (Service 1-6).

Digital Option – Selects Digital Captionappearance menu options.Style: Use caption feature defaults asprovided by the program or customizecaption appearance with the Custommenu options.Size: Selects the font size.Font: Selects the font type.Text Color: Selects the font color.Text Opacity: Selects the font opacity.Bg. (Background) Color: Selects thebackground color.Bg. (Background) Opacity: Selects thebackground opacity.Edge Type: Selects the edge type.Edge Color: Selects the edge color.

Auto OffSets a time the TV will turn off.If you do not press any button within thepreset time, this feature automaticallyturns the unit off. (Default: 4 hours)If you select “Off”, Auto Off is not active.

Audio OutputSelect the appropriate audio output modeof the unit depending on your TV connec-tion.Stereo – When your TV is connected with

stereo audio cable (L/R).Mono – When your TV is connected with

mono audio cable.

Lock Menu Features

Lock SystemAllows you to set up specific channelsand ratings through blocking schemes.Also allows you to activate or disable allof the lock schemes previously set up. Apassword is required to gain access tothe LOCK menus. If the Lock System is set to Off, theChannel and Program Ratings are notfunctional.

Set PasswordChanges the password.

1. Select the “Set Password” option thenpress (Select) or i.

2. Enter the new 4-digit password.

3. Enter the same password again fornew password’s confirm.

While watching TV, you can change the captionoption using CCD button on the Remote Control.

Tip

you can select a time for the Auto Off usingSLEEP button on the Remote Control.

Tip

To access the LOCK menu, you must input the4-digit password. (The default password is“0000”.)

Block ChannelBlocks any channel that you do not wantto view or that you do not want your chil-dren to watch. If you tune in a blockedchannel, a black screen with a pop-upbox will appear.

1. Select “Block Channel” option thenpress (Select) or i.

2. Select a channel then press (Select)to block or unblock the channel.The mark will appear to the right ofthe station name to indicate theblocked channel.

3. Repeat step 2 to block or unblockadditional channels on the channellist menu.

TV Rating-ChildrenPrevents children from watching certainchildren’s TV programs according to theratings limit set. This rating applies onlyto TV programs for children. Unless youblock TV programs intended for matureaudiences in the TV Rating – Generalmenu, your children could view thoseprograms.

1. Select the “TV Rating-Children” optionthen press (Select) or i.

2. Select the “Age” or “Fantasy Violence”option then press (Select) or i.

Age: Selection applies regardless ofcontent category of rating.

Fantasy Violence: Selection applies ifTV programs include rating forFantasy Violence.

3. Select a rating then press (Select).

TV-Y: All Children.

TV-Y7: Directed toward children age7 and older.

TV Rating-GeneralBlocks TV programs that you or yourfamily may not wish to watch, based onthe rating scheme set.

1. Select the “TV Rating-General” optionthen press (Select) or i.

2. Select the “Age”, “Dialogue”,“Language”, “Sex”, or “Violence”option then press (Select) or i.

Age: Selection applies regardless ofcontent category of rating.

Dialogue: Selection applies if TV pro-grams have rating for Dialogue.

Language: Selection applies if TVprograms have rating for Language.

Sex: Selection applies if TV programshave rating for Sex.

Violence: Selection applies if TV pro-grams have rating for Violence.

3. Select a rating then press (Select).

TV-G: General Audience.

TV-PG: Parental Guidance Suggested.

TV-14: Parents Strongly Cautioned.

TV-MA: Mature Audience Only.

Movie RatingBlocks movies according to the movieratings restrictions so children cannotview certain movies. You can set the rat-ings to block out all the movies with rat-ings above a specified level. Keep inmind that the movie ratings apply only tomovies shown on TV, not TV programssuch as soap operas.

1. Select the “Movie Rating” option thenpress (Select) or i.

2. Select a rating then press (Select).

G: General AudiencesAll ages admitted.

PG: Parental Guidance Suggested.Some material may not be suitablefor children.

PG-13: Parents Strongly CautionedSome material may not be appro-priate for children under 13.

R: Restricted Under 17 requiresaccompanying parent or adultguardian.

NC-17: No one 17 and under admit-ted.

X: No one 17 and under admitted.

Canadian RatingBlocks Canadian TV program that you oryour family may not wish to watch, basedon the Canadian English/FrenchLanguage Rating system.

1. Select the “Canadian Rating” optionthen press (Select) or i.

2. Select the “English” or “French”option then press (Select) or i.

English: Selection applies if TV pro-grams have the Canadian EnglishLanguage Rating.

French: Selection applies if TV pro-grams have the Canadian FrenchLanguage Rating.

3. Select a rating then press (Select).

For Canadian English LanguageRating system

C: Program intended for childrenunder age 8.

C8+: Program generally consideredacceptable for children 8 years andover to watch on their own.

G: General audience.PG: Parental guidance.14+: Program contains themes or

content which may not be suitablefor viewers under the age of 14.

18+: Adult program.

For Canadian French LanguageRating system

G: General - Program intended foraudience of all ages.

8 ans+: Not recommended for youngchildren.

13 ans+: Program may not be suit-able for children under the age of13.

16 ans+: Program is not suitable forchildren under the age of 16.

18 ans+: Program restricted to adults.

Downloadable RatingThe rating information can be updated ifthe TV station sends the downloadablerating information.

1. Select the “Downloadable Rating”option then press (Select) or i.

2. Select a rating title or TV rating thenpress (Select) or i.

3. Select a rating then press (Select).

• If information is not downloaded from the TVstation, the Downloadable Rating option is notavailable.

• Rating information is automatically down-loaded while watching DTV channels. It maytake several seconds.

• The Downloadable Rating option is availablefor use after rating information is downloadedfrom the TV station. However, depending onthe information from the TV station, it maynot be available for use.

• Rating levels differ depending on the broad-casting station.

• The default option name and DownloadableRating changes depending on the downloadedinformation.

• The on-screen display for DownloadableRating options will appear with a languagethat TV station sends.

• The rating titles (For example: Humor, etc)and TV ratings (For example: MH, H, VH,etc) may differ depending on the TV station.

Channel SelectionYou can select channels as described below.• Use Number (0-9) and – (dash) buttons

to select a channel directly.

• Press FAV to scroll through yourfavorite channels.

• Press RECALL to return to the previ-ous channel you viewed.

• Use CH u/U on the Remote Control oru/U on the front panel to select a chan-nel through the channels in memory.

Volume AdjustmentAdjusts the sound level for audio out onthe unit.• Use VOL +/– to adjust the sound level

Auto OffThis unit will be automatically turned off,in case of no button input for a presettime. You can set a time using theSLEEP button.If you select “Off”, Auto Off is not activat-ed.

Channel Banner DisplayThe Channel Banner shows channelnumber, station name, current time, andblock information for a moment.

The Channel Banner appears wheneveryou tune to a new channel or press the

(Select) button while viewing a pro-gram.

Press (Select) to clear ChannelBanner from being displayed.

Removing the MUTE function may cause hear-ing or speaker damage if the TV volume is settoo high.

To program the Remote Control to controlyour TV1. While pressing and holding down the

Fragmented picture and unclear sound.• Check your antenna input, location, and sig-

nal strength.

No picture.• Select the Auto Tuning or Manual Scan

functions if you have not already done so. • Check to make sure all the cables are

installed correctly and that the propersource is selected on your TV. For exam-ple, CH 3, CH 4, Video 1 or Video 2.

• The antenna signal strength may be low.Check the signal strength and adjust theantenna location and direction.
