OGC Update 6
REPORT Other MotionsOther Motions
• Accept the updated Technical Document Baseline also known as Document 1 (OGC Document 03-053r1) as the normative reference for our technical document baseline. (Passed)
– The Technical Baseline is a list of all the "active" OGC documents and their status.
• The TC recommends to the PC that the document “XML Binary Encoding” (03-002r8) (also known as BXML) be shared with the W3C for consideration (Passed)
– There was a feeling among some of the members that BXML would be of interest to the greater XML community. Hence the idea that we would advise the W3C of its publication.
• The TC recommends to the PC that an e-vote or approval of version 1.0 of the Web Coverage Service Specification be allowed. (Passed)
– The WCS Revision Working Group has reached consensus on what should be in 1.0 of the spec and expects to be finished with the document before the next meeting in October. This motion lets them ask for an electronic vote in the summer.
• The TC recommends to the PC that an e-vote for approval of version 1.1 of the Web Feature Service Specification be allowed.
– The WFS Revision Working Group has reached consensus on what should be in 1.1 of the spec and expects to be finished with the document before the nex meeting in October. This motion lets them ask for an electronic vote in the summer.

REPORT WFS & FilterWFS & Filter
• Editor’s revision to be completed in mid-September
• RWG will review & revise some more• E-Vote by RWG, then e-vote by TC
• Probable outcome: end of 2003 or early 2004 for final adopted version 1.1
![Page 9: DSTT OGC Update September 16, 2003 OGC Update September 16, 2003 Chiang Mai, Thailand Allan Doyle, NASA.](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022082917/5514e1a6550346935c8b567b/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)

OGC Update 9
REPORT WMSWMS
• WMS in tight synchronization with ISO version• Revised version sent to ISO on 2003-08-31 as
DIS.– http://www.digitalearth.gov/wmt/docs/iso19128-DIS.doc
– Comments on DIS must be submitted via ISO channels
• Same version to be submitted to OGC for vote as WMS 1.2.0
• Situation is interesting because– ISO now has a newer version than OGC (but it’s still
DIS)– There is a chance (small) that OGC’s 1.2.0 could differ
from ISO DIS

REPORT CatalogCatalog
• RWG is working on version 2.0– Doug Nebert - Chair– Stateless Catalog interface– General model
• Query Language Group– Lou Reich - Chair– Expansion of OGC Common Query Language, Filter
Encoding, and combination with XML Query
• Vendor Group– Working on an RFC based on OWS 1.2 SIM/RIM– RFC would be considered a profile of Catalog 2.0
• Prognosis - This is not “quick” work…– I.e. don’t expect anything in 2003 or early 2004

REPORT Geospatial One StopGeospatial One Stop
• Geospatial One Stop Portal Initiativehttp://www.geo-one-stop.gov/
• Look at “What’s New” section…– Provide portal based on OGC services to provide
access to (eventually all) US Government spatial data holdings
– Initial demonstration in June, 2003– ESRI was also hired to build an independent portal– The two portals were compared in June and the ESRI
portal was chosen as the “winner”.– OGC is to “consult” to ensure the portal will follow
standards.– The best review of news material about this can be
found here:http://www.gismonitor.com/news/newsletter/archive/062603.phphttp://www.gismonitor.com/news/newsletter/archive/070303.php

OGC Update 15
REPORT SummarySummary
• OGC is still “alive and kicking”
– GOS Portal was a bit of a setback– Still seems to be working on too many
fronts– Unclear how OpenLS really fits in
+Increasing number of implementations+Still plenty of interest and participation+WCS will hit version 1 and should prove
useful to the EO community

REPORT Binary-XML Encoding Binary-XML Encoding Specification (03-002r8)Specification (03-002r8)
• Describes an encoding of XML in a binary format that both reduces the volume of data that has to be transferred between applications and allows for very efficient client-side ingestion of the data. BXML provides a lossless encoding of XML data so the receiving end can reconstitute the entire structure.

REPORT Critical Infrastructure Collaborative Critical Infrastructure Collaborative Environment ArchitectureEnvironment Architecture
• [The] Critical Infrastructure Collaborative Environment (CICE) [...] open, distributed processing environment crosses organizational boundaries and includes a variety of components deployed within multiple communities. The CICE leverages OGC Web Services to enable: The publication of the availabilityof critical infrastructure services and data; The registration and categorization of published service and data providers; and The discovery of needed critical infrastructure services and data The integration and application of critical infrastructure services and data
• Critical infrastructure is a very broad term that encompasses many large-scale systems in a range of sectors: energy, telecommunications, transportation, public health services, and more. Safeguarding such systems involves a myriad of political, economic, and legal issues that will not be raised here. Rather, the CICE is more about the creation and maintenance of a common information operating environment to support operational, planning, and decision-making activities associated with critical infrastructure protection.

REPORT GO-1 Application Objects GO-1 Application Objects Report (03-064r1)Report (03-064r1)
• This document is a draft of the OpenGIS Application Objects Implementation Specification, hereinafter “AOS”. The AOS is one of a family of specifications that make up the OGC Geographic Objects activity. The Geographic Objects Initiative was established to develop an open set of common, lightweight, language-independent abstractions for describing, managing, rendering, and manipulating geometric and geographic objects within an application programming environment. This document defines that set of vendor-neutral, Object-Oriented geometric and geographic object abstractions. It provides both an abstract object specification (in UML) and a JAVA specific profile to that that specification. The language-specific binding specifications themselves serve as open Application Programmer Interface (API) specifications for these Application Objects.
