Books which tell real things are known as non-fiction books. The ‘story’ is actually called an information
report! Information reports are unlike stories which are often made up. They collect facts and organize
them to provide information to people.
How much do you know about honey bees! You have seen movies, cartoons and read story
books. This book is even more special! It will tell you the real things about honeybees.
After reading this book, you might want to do an information report on something you
like!
While enjoying the story, let us learn some grammar because grammar
helps us to put ideas in ways which people can understand you and me. Are there any words above put in a
way so that it makes sense?
See! All the highlighted words are put in a
certain way to make sense to you and others! Imagine missing out one
or two of them!
Let us start off by looking at nouns. Nouns are naming words of people, places and things. For example…….
There you go! These are nouns. There are many types of nouns. However we will only look at two kinds of nouns:
GENERAL and
SPECIFIC

So, which are general or specific nouns? Specific nouns are special nouns but general nouns are common names given. For example, “Ben 10” is a specific noun but “cartoon” is a general noun.

Information texts are also usually in present tense.

Another thing to observe is the use of technical words. Technical words are scientific terms given.
