PART 2: CALIFORNIA ENERGY CODE PRESCRIPTIVE AND MANDATORY MEASURES CHECKLIST

All sections must be addressed for a complete submittal. For additional information, refer to the Energy Efficiency Standards and Nonresidential Manual.

The following requirements apply only to conditioned modular buildings.

ENVELOPE REQUIREMENTS

Modular buildings must meet all applicable prescriptive requirements of Energy Code 140.3(a)

Envelope

Plans must specify the required R-value and how insulation and air sealing will occur around headers and objects in the wall. Plans must illustrate how thermal envelope is continuous from foundation to wall to roof, and how continuity of the thermal envelope at the roof, wall and foundation (if applicable) is provided when modules are attached in the field.

Windows – All walls shall be assumed to be west facing and shall comply with Energy Code 140.3(a) 5.A.i.

The required U-factor for walls, roofs, and raised floors are found in Table 140.3. The Reference Appendices JA4 lists how much insulation is needed to meet the U-factor’s.

The minimum visual transmittance for windows and skylights shall be:

• Operable Windows: 0.32

• Fixed window: 0.42

• Tubular skylight: ≥0.38

HVAC REQUIREMENTS FOR VENTILATION & INDOOR AIR QUALITY

Modular buildings must meet all applicable Mandatory Measures of Energy Code 120.1

For each size modular building an air-distribution system design (duct design) shall be shown on the plans in accordance with Energy Code Section 120.1(a)2.

Installed filter shall have designated efficiency equal or greater than MERV 13 and shall be 2-inch minimum depth per Energy Code 120.1(c)1.

Provide a note that the thermostat will be programed when the modular buildings is placed on a site to ensure the minimum air rate will be supplied to the space at all usually occupied times and programmed to provide a pre-occupancy purge one hour prior to the modular building being normally occupied per Energy Code 120.1(d)1.

If an economizer is installed, or if the outside air is capable of being modulated, install Demand Control Ventilation (DCV) devices according to Energy Code Section 120.1(d)3. and 4:

• List the equipment needed for operating DVC.

• Show CO2 sensor locations and wiring diagram.

• CO2 sensors shall display the ppm in the space.

REQUIRED CONTROLS FOR SPACE-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS

Check applicable HVAC controls as required for the design of the HVAC system of Energy Code 120.2

HVAC Controls

Heat pumps using supplementary electric resistance heating must use a thermostat designed for heat pumps and meet Section 120.2(d) and 110.2(b). List the model number of the thermostat in the plans.

Manual override shall be installed that allows the occupant to turn on the system for 4 hours and meets Section 120.2(e). List the model number of the device in the plans.

Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) must be installed for cooling systems that are greater than 54,000 Btu/hour (4.5 Tons) and have installed an air economizer in accordance with Section 120.2(i). List the model number of the FDD system in the plans and provide proof of certification from the California Energy Commission.

Load calculations for proper equipment sizing per Energy Code Section 140.4(b) may be requested by DSA for plan approval.

Space Conditioning Systems

Economizers – If the cooling capacity is over 54,000 Btu/hour (4.5 Tons) an economizer is required, or the efficiency of the HVAC equipment must be improved Per Table 140.4-D. Check applicable:
