What is Dryfex Green?Dryex Green is a family of thermoplastic
elastomer (TPE) compounds containing raw
materials from renewable resources such as
plant and vegetable crops.
So far we have developed several series with
amounts of renewable content to over 70%
(ASTM D 6866) with hardnesses from 50 to 80
Shore A.
Why use biobased?Plastics are predominantly a by-product of oil, a
diminishing resource. We are therefore seeing
increasing demands to look at how we can work
with biobased, renewable materials and bring
new opportunities for sustainability.
Utilising raw materials that are derived from
renewable vegetable crops, that are responsibly
grown, can contribute to an improved LCA
(Life Cycle Assessment), which measures the
environmental impact of all stages of a products
life from cradle to grave.
Crops for industrial use can be grown in poorsoil which is unsuited to food crops, avoiding
food crop displacement and improving
biodiversity. The planting of these crops can
also help to reduce CO2levels.
Key PropertiesDryex Green TPE compounds display
mechanical and physical properties comparable
to TPE from fossil based raw materials
Flexibility & tensile properties
Soft-touch feel
Suitable for injection moulding & extrusion
Adhesion to biobased polymers, such as
PE, for 2K & multi-component applications
Fully recyclable
Can easily be coloured
Renewable content to over 70% (ASTM D
6866)
Hardnesses from 50 to 80 Shore A
ApplicationsDryex Green TPE compounds could open
up sustainability options in the consumer,
automotive, packaging, medical and
construction markets.
ProcessingDryex Green TPE compounds can be
processed using conventional thermoplastic
fabricating methods, including injectionmoulding and extrusion.

Biobased & Biodegradable
There can sometimes be confusion between the terms biobasedand biodegradable, we can categorisebioplastics in three groups, each with their own characteristics
All the above information about chemical and physical properties consists of values measured in tests on injection moulded test specimens. We provide written and
illustrated advice in good faith. This should only be regarded as being advisory, and does not absolve the customer from doing their own tests and trials, to determine
the suitability of the material for the intended applications. We retain the right to make changes without prior notice. Figures are indicative and can vary depending on
the specifc grade selected and production site.

Biobased plastics: a plastic where at least
a part of the content comes from biological or
agricultural materials

plastic that is designed to degrade under
compost conditions. Containing renewable
content
Biodegradable plastics: a plastic that
is designed to degrade under compost
conditions. Based on fossil resources

Initial developmentThe market for bioplastics is still in its infancy, but with rapidly growing interest. HEXPOL TPE strive to
be at the forefront in bringing new solutions to market. Our R&D teams are constantly engineering new
polymer combinations. We have been working closely with suppliers as new raw materials become
available to develop sustainable alternatives to fossil-based materials.
From our initial assessments, we have developed three series of Dryex Green TPE, each with different
levels of renewable content. We will work with our customers and supply partners to further test the
possibilities of Dryex Green TPE compounds, as we continue to engineer progressive solutions to meet
new and emerging market demands.
