CS Facilities – Dryer plant: Coopersville, MI. After completing the preconstruction, estimating phases as well as design coordination for this project. I was also assigned to perform on-site Project Management of the +/-85 million dollar rehabilitation of a reclaimed GM Delphi materials plant in Coopersville, MI into a 3 million pound a day Milk balancing plant for Fairfield/Continental Dairy Facilities. This new facility is designed to produce low, medium, as well as high heat nonfat milk powders using the latest in spray drying technology. The owners had selected this specific plant for its location in Western Michigan to provide much needed new growth as well as much needed employment opportunities for the area. We as a contractor generally self-perform much of the work within a project of this type however our clients wanted to see as much work as possible subcontracted within the local community on an open shop basis. Although this approach is generally both more costly as well as time consuming the benefits and good-will within the community outweighed these factors. This approach did in fact work very well in large part due to the multiple preconstruction as well as community meetings which were held in coordination with our standard daily site planning meetings. We fostered a team approach between all subcontractors and vendors our forces onsite are a good solid mix of union and non-union subcontractors and vendors. The project was picked however, we immediately set about a dual gate and suffered no lost time. I am extremely proud to have been a part of this project, town and team. Sq.
