Every society is a container

of heterogeneous kinds of

identities.

Some of them are wide-

spread and commonly ac-

cepted, others are more

peculiar and less known.

The first strongly charac-

terize the face of the soci-

ety, but the second are

nonetheless part of it.

Aim of the Human Library

is to give voice to that mi-

nority part who has often

been victim of stigma and

preconception, and, since

stereotypes come from

poorly-advised judgement,

no other way than knowl-

edge is effective to break

them.

On Saturday 16th of No-

vember2013, in the won-

derful venue of the Na-

tional Parliamentary Library

of Georgia, Tbilisi met

diversity.

Twenty-seven “human

books”, namely persons

who decided to tell their

story, engaged construc-

tive and pleasant face by

face chats with “readers”

who decided to give

a chance to understand-

ing.

Ethnic minorities, reli-

gious minorities, persons

with disabilities, and other

disregarded, when not

oppugned, components of

Georgian society had the

opportunity to become

more known and ac-

cepted.

More than three hundred

readers took part to the

event, and feedbacks from

them and from the books

are really encouraging.

This was the third edition

of Human Library in Tbi-

lisi, and the improving

trend of results has per-

suaded the organizers of

the necessity to keep on

organizing such a won-

derful and effective activ-

ity, in order to make

it become a renowned

yearly appointment.

We hope this Human

Library really meant

a step forward in the path

toward social inclusion

and diversity understand-

ing, and, since both books

and readers declared to

be really satisfied, we can

reasonably think we

reached our goal.

Yes, how? This question se-

ems weird, because this

is only a ball, nothing more.

Some people can even say

that this is a game for little

kids. But DRONI tried to do

it on 9th of November du-

ring International Day Aga-

inst Facism and Anti-

Semitism.

We organised football tour-

n amen t t o p romote

to increase tolerance to-

wards people which belong

to different minority groups,

increase concern of society

with problem of fascism,

racism and Anti-Semitism

and counteract these pheno-

menon via promoting above

m e n t i o n e d t o l e r a n c e

in sport. We gathered 6 te-

ams from various backgro-

unds as Georgian youth

from IDP settlement, Egyp-

tians, Iraqis, Azeri, Russians,

EVS volunteers from diffe-

rent countries. The aim

of the event was to incre-

ase the tolerance of the

participants towards diffe-

rent cultures and to spread

awareness about fascism,

racism and Anti-Semitism

problems. We wanted also

through the mean of foot-

ball, to spread a message of

brotherhood and sisterho-

od, friendship, respect and

fairness among people

of different genders and

coming from different co-

untries, regions, religions

and economic-status. Fur-

thermore, our long-term

objective is to help in buil-

ding a society of tolerance,

solidarity and full respect

for diversity.

Whole tournament went

smoothly, and a lot of peo-

ple came to support their

teams. In the big final te-

ams from Azerbaijan and

Russia met. After very fa-

scinated game Russia won

7:6. Congratulations not

only to the winners but to

all participants who tried

to make this world a little

bit better.

The topic of training course

was “Conflict Transforma-

tion and Peace Building

in Divided Societies”, which

took place in Berlin, Ger-

many, from 12th of October

till 19th . Participants were

from 8 different countries.

Georgian team was repre-

sented by Anna Giorbelidze,

Ellen Kikalishvili, Mariam

Gabrielidze and Nino Magh-

lakelidze. During the train-

ing course we gained many

skills, like interviewing and

being interviewed, learned

how we can solve problems

without using force and

how we can change our-

selves to change the world.

joy here is that I can speak

my native language and peo-

ple actually understand me:)

What about the project it-

self? The main intention

of our gathering is to learn

how to write and implement

projects, with special atten-

tion to including people with

f e w e r o p p o r t u n i t i e s .

We have 3 trainers, Ivana

and Magda from Macedonia

and Mykola, the president

of Institute. Mykola turn out

to be one of the most inspir-

ing and positive person I've

ever met, he has acomplished

so much regardless his sight

issues and taught as a lot

how to cooperate with peo-

ple with some kinds of dis-

abilities. It was a great ex-

perience to put myself in the

shoes of blind of deaf person

and what's more important

to find out what they actually

need and how can we help

in the proper way. Anyway

the topic not only concerns

I'm sending you hugs from

Chernihovka, a pictureresque

village somewhere in the

Western Ukraine in Carpa-

t h i a n m o u t a i n s .

Together with our DRONI

volunteers Giorgi Beridzishvili

and Tornike Bolokadze are

participating in training

course named "Accessible

projects for inclusive Europe"

organized by Inst itute

of Ukrainian Studies.

Firs off all I have to say I'm so

happy to try genuine Ukrain-

ian cuisine: vareniki, borshch,

salo, chebureki and most tast-

ful sour cream I've ever tried.

The second thing I really en-

people with disabilities, but all

anyhow socially excluded

persons, like minorites, refu-

gees, homeless, homosexual,

people from rural areas etc.

Togheter with Armenian

friends from APY we hope

to organize peace-bridge con-

ference for conflicted ethinic-

ities representants and to

invite people from Georgia,

Abhazia, Armenia, Russia,

Azerbeijan and Turkey.

Here are some photos from

Georgian evening, you can be

proud of me:) It was an hon-

our to represent Sakartvelo.

Conflict Transformations and Peacebuilding in Divided

Sociaties

Greetings from Ukraine

Ukraine in my

eyes

Our fantastic team. Welcome to Georgia!

We played simulation game,

which gave us great opportu-

nity to get to know how gov-

ernment is working with

peace building. After that we

had trainings about Forum

Theater, which was new and

very interesting for us, as we

had a play, where we were

playing roles.

DRONI

because I've never seen so

beautiful colors in Autumn.

I am working in a Eurodesk

office and for the Molndal

Municipality. Generally, we

are helping young people to

transfer their initiatives into

the actions and projects.

First what I felt when I went

out from the Airport is that

its very calm here, they

never hurry, you will never

see crowded busses or trams

as in Tbilisi, too much polite

people, too much Fikas , No

sun, raining every time and

5pm its already night :) the

most popular phrase for for-

eigners: WINTER IS COM-

ING most of are very scared

because non of us knows how

hard it will be in Winter. The

things which I really like and

appreciate, how they take

care about nature. We are

recycling everything and not

wasting anything.

Hello lovely DRONI people

from Sweden. Im Sopo and

I was working as a EVS coor-

dinators in DRONI. As a lot

of things in my life , in case of

EVS everything happened vise

versa, before I was coordina-

tor and after one year I be-

came EVS volunteer :) But in

a same time it's more inter-

esting to see the process from

the different perspectives and

in a same time estimate my

work which I've done before.

I'm doing my EVS in Sweden in

beautiful city Goteborg. It's

already one month that I ar-

rived. In my point of view it

was perfect time to arrive

I start learning Swedish lan-

guage,it's very very hard. I've

never thought that there is

language difficult as Georgian

but Swedish is even worth.

Final I can say that I am very

happy that I choose this EVS,

everything is so different from

Georgia that I am sure I will

learn and change a lot of things

in a positive direction.

Ha en bra Dag :)

Hej Hej!
