WORK EXPERIENCE

August 2008 to present: Mission Community Services Society (MCSS)

Settlement and Immigration Program Coordinator: Develop, coordinate and evaluate the delivery of services to New Canadians including

referral process, client confidentiality, maintenance of client data base, information gathering and delivery, record keeping, collection of statistics, crisis intervention and home security checks.

Manage volunteer program including recruiting, interviewing, selecting, orienting, hiring, training, scheduling and supervising all volunteers.

Remain currently knowledgeable of legislation, programs and information essential to Multicultural Services and ensure effective dissemination to staff and volunteers.

Complete and update program policies and procedures and ensure compliance by staff and volunteers.

Act as Community Liaison for educational information, materials and presentations to general public, referral agency resources and community leaders. Present at public meetings on Multicultural Programs and related topics.

Collaborate and partner with other service providers such as Public Libraries, Mission Literacy Motion, Lifetime Learning Center Society, Leisure Centers, ELSA Programs and the District of Mission.

Organize activities that promote multiculturalism through International Knitting Club, Women’s Cross Cultural Learning Group, Valley Women’s Network and Business Professional Women in partnership with Mission Library and Mission Literacy in Motion.

Provide or arrange interpretation and translation services within the agency and to other service providers in Mission.

Fundraising for program activities. Organize networking social groups for the multicultural community including recruiting

keynote speakers for related topics. Coordinate meetings between volunteer hosts and new immigrants.

Multicultural Services Coordinator: Responsible for all the planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating of the

Multicultural Services Program at MCSS. Responsible for all the administrative activities related to the delivery of Multicultural

Services in Mission and surrounding areas. Networking and outreach in the community.

Provide direct services to the clients and the community partners. Ensure that accurate reports and statistics for the Department are maintained and submitted. Represent Multicultural Services at the Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels when

mandated by MCSS Ensure volunteer program is being maintained, including recruitment, interviewing,

selecting, orienting, hiring, and training. Scheduling and supervising all volunteers, practicum students and summer students. Supervise Program Staff and volunteers by assigning duties, providing feedback on

performance and conducting performance evaluation. Monitors and authorizes program expenditures and maintains financial records in

accordance with established procedures. Prepares the program budget for submission and presentation to senior management.

Promotes public awareness of and support for the program by producing promotional materials and attending community events.

Liaison with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision; facilitate referrals to the program and represent the organization or program in external events.

2008 to Present: Immigrant Settlement Councilor:Provide services that assist newcomer immigrants and refugees to settle and integrate into Canadian society

2009 to present: Safe Harbor –Respect for All Project Coordinator: 41 Safe Harbour locations and 135 participants have attended the workshop and committed to provide Safe Harbor under the facilitation done since 2009.

2009-2010 Project Coordinator: BC Anti-Racism and Multiculturalism Program (Funded by BCAMP Program of Ministry Responsible for Multiculturalism, Embrace BC).

2008-2009 Project Coordinator: Youth Teaching Youth — Multiculturalism Matters Done in partnership with Mission School District #75, Mission Arts Council, Optimist Club of Mission, Clark Theatre, Mission, Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies of University of the Fraser Valley, Mission Indian Friendship Society, Dashmesh Punjabi School, and Mission Leisure Centre.

University Teaching Experience – Have taught Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Science (MBBS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), M.Sc. Nursing and D. Pharma students for twenty years.

Teaching Methodology - 60% classroom lectures using overhead projector, slide projector, power point presentations and black-board teaching. Another 40% of teaching included organization of self learning skills among students through problem based learning (PBL), small group discussions and student seminars, intra- and inter-departmental oral quizzes, clinical visits, viva-voce and practical demonstrations. Provided self assessment forms at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of each topic or session.

Examinations:

Examiner for theory units: Composed question papers for 3 hour exam duration at the end of each unit which included short answer type questions and MCQ’s. Composed viva-voce question bank for each topic, and prepared topics for student seminar presentations and student’s self marking hand outs.

Examiner for practical skills: 40% marks for the performance skill, 60% for the clinical relevance in the form of oral examination besides the practical table.

All examinations throughout the year (both theory and practical) contributed 40% towards the internal assessment at the end of the session for University Examination.
