DRIVING FORCEAN AHAA NEWSLETTER
AHAA is Making An ImpactSeptember 2013
“I am honored to be a contributor to the first AHAA newsle>er.
In a short period of Bme, AHAA has established itself as an important associaBon for the vehicle logisBcs industry in North America, represenBng the heart of this industry: the small and medium-‐sized companies. The finished vehicle logisBcs industry has been through some tough Bmes, but now there is a lot more posiBvity, with the automoBve industry in North America booming. This exciBng Bme offers great opportuniBes for change.
I laughed when I read Bill Schroeder’s biography on this website, which said that he specializes in environments where there is strong resistance to change. That was certainly the case in vehicle logisBcs in the past. But Bmes are different now. Rather than desperate Bmes forcing us to change, it is the opportuniBes today that demand it. And the founders of AHAA have recognized this. The aim of AHAA is ‘delivering customer saBsfacBon by improving it’s members’ operaBonal performance.’ That is a laudable and important mission.
To do this, it is important to have a group of members who have a sustainable business future. The providers have to be ready for the new automoBve industry: they must be prepared for globalizaBon, ready for new mobility methods, have a diverse customer base, be early adopters of the latest technology, and finally be ready to work together to develop a strong, efficient vehicle industry.
I am sure that AHAA will provide a great plaQorm for the sharing of ideas and networking, and will play an important part in your industry’s future.
We at the AutomoBve LogisBcs Group, including Finished Vehicle LogisBcs publicaBons, events and online intelligence, look forward to conBnuing to work together.”

AT A GLANCE: LAST MONTH
Hank Seaton, attorney at The Law Office of Seaton & Husk, spoke about the New MAP-21 Requirement on Broker Bonds and helped us to understand what we need to do to be prepared for the New Rules/Regulations coming on 10/01/2013.October 1st is fast approaching and with it, the implementation and enforcement of specific MAP-21 provisions which have serious implications to almost every transportation company. So, are you prepared? If the answer is "No", or worse yet, "What are you talking about?" then you absolutely need to read up on and protect your company's future in the transportation and logistics industry.Members: click here for more information
We continue to work with the AIAG on the Loading Standard which is awaiting approval by the broader AIAG membership. In addition our work on the ePod standard has become much more significant on both time and impact. In each case our members are proving how well positioned we are by both structure and willingness to share time and
ideas leading to a significant impact on the process. To date we have engaged staff in varying degrees from Proficient Auto Transport, Hansen and Adkins Auto Transport, T.J. McGeehan, Brothers Auto Transport, United Road and Diversified Automotive. Work on the Loading Standard has diminished for the time being while the ePod effort will continue at least through the months of August and September.
Marcus Williams, News Editor with Finished Vehicle Logistics held a discussion with several of our members regarding the impact of the new Hours of Service Regulations on their respective operations. It was an excellent opportunity for our members to give some very good insights into the issue from the car carriers perspective. Be sure to look for his upcoming article on this topic!
Our Founders Committee has established a few sub-committees to address certain subjects in need of additional focus. Take a look by clicking here to see a list of the newly formed committees that have been established.
Please email Kelly Johnson at [email protected] to join a committee.
This is a great opportunity to get involved and help guide us on specific areas as we move forward.
Many thanks to all of our members and we look forward to working with each of you.
