Sport at FaithAt Faith, we believe that education should provide opportunities for each student to develop their unique God-given gifts and talents, and experience life as a member of a caring community.

The College is set in a vibrant rural community, with state-of-the-art, fit-for-purpose facilities providing students with a multitude of areas to explore and learn. Faith students are encouraged to grow as individuals and to explore various pathways for their future.

The College places an emphasis on participation, providing pathways for elite athletes to achieve their best and setting goals to win competitions. The College’s Sports Department is committed to providing pathways that meet the needs of our community. Our programs aim to deliver quality learning experiences that promote enjoyment, life-long engagement, and achievement. Through regular high-quality sporting competition against like-minded independent schools, students will develop the human attributes necessary for the future including respect, leadership, unity and determination.

GBC SPORTAs a member of the Greater Brisbane Conference (GBC), our students have access to Saturday sporting competitions for three

out of four terms. The GBC Competition allows our students to compete against some of the strongest Colleges in the Brisbane, Redlands, Ipswich and Logan areas. Whilst the competition provides opportunities to participate in sports such as netball, touch football, soccer and tennis, it has also allowed ours students to experience sports that are not readily available in the Lockyer Valley including volleyball, touch rugby league, basketball and indoor cricket.

TOTAL RUGBY PROGRAMFaith Lutheran College also operates a highly competitive Rugby Union and League program. The Total Rugby Program provides multiple Rugby pathways (Union, League, Rugby 7s) for boys to develop skills, gameplay understanding, tactical awareness and most importantly character. Total Rugby embodies the values of respect, responsibility, honour and grit, with a purpose to grow the person alongside the player, break negative stereotypes about playing ‘footy’ and create a sense of belonging within our community. The program allows teams to participate in the Confraternity Rugby League Competition, Broncos Cup, Darling Downs Super Schools Cup and The Downs Rugby 7s. It is envisioned the program will grow to offer similar opportunities for girls at our College.

INTERSCHOOL SPORTAdditional interschool opportunities are provided to students in such sports as equestrian, AFL, touch football, netball and basketball, along with encouragement and support to trial for Western Ranges District and Metropolitan West Representative teams. Our involvement in these programs has been extremely well represented by our students at Faith.

Faith Lutheran College offers sporting scholarships in order to both reward students for outstanding sporting achievement and commitment to the College; and to attract additional elite athletes.

College Snapshot

A limited number of sporting scholarships will be available to students in Year 7 and above in 2021. All scholarship recipients will be required to maintain their dedication to school sport at Faith whilst ensuring their level of academics matches their level of sporting achievement.

Prospective students may apply for the following scholarships:

1. General Sport Scholarship: Applicants demonstrate excellence in the fields of athletics, swimming, cross country, volleyball, basketball, soccer, netball, touch football, indoor cricket or AFL.

2. Total Rugby Scholarship: Applicants demonstrate excellence in the field of rugby union, rugby league or Rugby 7s.

In deciding whether to offer a scholarship, the following factors will be considered:• Sporting achievements in sports in

which Faith Lutheran College competes at a high level.

• Commitment to representing Faith Lutheran College across a range of sports and/or events.

• The applicant’s commitment to College strength and conditioning programs and mentor groups.

• The applicant’s commitment to upholding the rights and responsibilities of a student at Faith Lutheran College.

Parents/carers interested in applying for a sporting scholarship for their student are requested to address the selection criteria by completing the Scholarship Application Form in this document.

Parents/carers of applicants should complete the following form and email it to enrolments@faithlcs.qld.edu.au along with any relevant documents required (applicants are also subject to the normal entry requirements of Faith Lutheran College Plainland).

Application Procedure

Scholarship DetailsApplicants must also be able to demonstrate a history of excellent behaviour and work ethic. Scholarships may be awarded to a maximum of 50% tuition fee remission. In some circumstances the applicant will be required to participate in an organised trial to demonstrate their level of ability, character and sportsmanship.

The parents/carers of students offered scholarships are required to sign a scholarship contract, setting out the terms and conditions for their student’s scholarship. Such contracts are subject to an annual review.
