Ms. Walther
6th-7th period
Chapter i
…in the beginning
1. My parents’ full name
Are Maria Refugio Garcia and Eduardo Hernandez Ruiz. My parents were both born in Mexico. My mother was born on April 22 and my father was born on August 11.
2. My father works for a resurfacing company as a painter. My mom has been a stay at home wife for most of the time, but now works in a company with my brother, she cleans empty apartments around the city.
4. Generally speaking, my
childhood was very
enjoyable. My mom would
let me be a kid most of the
time. I had rules to go by
just like anybody else, but
overall, my childhood was
good with a lot of family
around.
5. One story that I remember
most clearly about my
childhood would probably be
my first day of school. I
remember exactly what I was
wearing, mostly because it
was a private school that
required uniforms. I really
liked school and the teachers
seemed to like me. I was so
excited to begin school but
came home to hug my dog
waiting for me at the door.
We went to eat out that
night to celebrate my first
day going into school.
6. There are many lessons that
I’ve learned while growing up.
The one I remember the most
and really learned from it was
when I fell down and scraped
my knee. I was about 7 and I
was outside playing with my
friends in the street. I learned
to follow the rules and be in my
house by curfew time.
3. Usually things like news and
rumors or facts usually flowed pretty
fast, especially because everyone
knew each other since a young age.
But then people started moving out
and starting new lives. I don’t know
how it is now; I haven’t visited back
in a while.
1. Where I grew up was really humble.
Everyone knew each other in the
neighborhood and everyone knew
me since I was in my mother’s
womb. Every single of my birthdays,
everyone would come over and have
dinner with us. I really miss them.
They are like family to us.
2. Some of my important friendships were with my
cousin, and 2 other friends. My cousin and I would hang
out since we were born, we use to tell each other
everything, I knew I can trust her with anything. Aleena
was one of my important friendships because she knew
basically all my family and we would have sleepovers
almost every day of the summer. I also could trust her
with anything. My most recent important friendship is
Luisa She has been there since I was about 13, we share
a lot common interest and she knows almost everything
that there is to me.
Chapter ii
In your neighborhood
1. I have attended 2 high
schools. I went to Dekaney
High School my freshman
year 2009-2010 and I’ve
attended Carl Wunsche
Senior High School from my
sophomore year to my
senior year 2010-2012
Chapter iii
School days…
2. My earliest school day
memory would have to be my
first day of school. I remember
my mom driving me to school
my first day, I remember her
driving away from the school. I
remember one of the first
friends that I made in school. It
was a good day.
3. I remember my 3rd grade teacher.
Her name was Ms. McDonald. I got
really close to her during that year and I
use to go to her house for tutoring and
stuff like that. She was a really nice and
noble. After I moved on from her class,
we still talked and she even invited my
family to her baby shower. She later
moved and got married. We haven’t
had much contact since then.
4. I learned to follow the
rules as stated and respect
the people around and most
importantly, treat others like
you would want to be
treated. If otherwise, you will
have consequences. Every
action has its consequences,
good or bad.
5. Yes I was involved in extra-curricular activities
during school. At first I was involved in mostly music.
Since 5th grade, I joined choir all the way through
11th grade. I was in varsity choir for most of my high
school time and in middle school as well.
Chapter IV
Career Exploration!
1. I want to be a CRNA
when I grow up. They
perform a physical
assessment, prepare for
anesthetic
management,
administer anesthesia
to keep the patient pain
free, and they oversee
recovery from
anesthesia.
2. I would like to work at Memorial Hermann. It is
Healthgrades America’s 50 best hospitals. U.S.
News and World Report gave them four ranks. No.
30 for kidney disorders, No. 48 for urology, No. 38
for gynecology and No. 46 for heart and heart
surgery. All out of the top 50 hospitals. They also
have state recognition. The Texas Department of
State Health Services gave its Five-Star Award for
exemplary work in caring for newborns and their
families. The TDSHS also recognizes them for the
fastest, most appropriate stoke care. Memorial
Hermann Healthcare System is a not-for-profit,
community-owned, health care system with
spiritual values, dedicated to providing high
quality health services in order to improve the
health of the people in Southeast Texas. Craig
Cordola is the CEO for Memorial Hermann-Texas
Medical Center. Victoria King is the Chief Nursing
Office.
3. I don’t plan to be a
physician. But a CRNA
requires taking a
national certification
exam in order to
practice legally as a
CRNA.
1. Sam Houston State University.
School has been around more
than 130 years. It’s motto is,
“The measure of a Life is its
Service.” It was named for Sam
Houston, Texas’s greatest hero
and it continually strives to
honor its historical roots through
academic excellence that
includes exceptional teaching. It
is located in Huntsville, Texas.
It’s enrollment is of
approximately 17,618. It has
students from 53 countries and
the minorities makes up nearly a
third of the student population.
It’s student to teacher ratio is
20:1. And the degree that I plan
to obtain is nursing BSN. Tuition
and fees are $2,986 per
semester. Room and Board cost
is $2,100, books and supplies are
approximately $500 per
semester. The social atmosphere
is very diverse. SHSU offers 27
different residence halls with
male, female, coed, academic,
and sorority housing. Over 200
organizations are offered to help
you make friends, have fun,
serve others and challenge
yourself.
2. The estimated income
graduating as nurse, BSN would
be around $65,130.
Chapter v
College Exploration
3. After getting BSN at SHSU,
hopefully I would love to attend
Baylor College of Medicine to
specialize in anesthesia, to
successfully become a CRNA.
The requirements for BCM is to have
an academic record, as well as to
take a Medical College Admission
Test (MCAT), and have letters of
evaluation and recommendations.
Also must have an interview and
obtain a Texas residency. There are
many medical degrees offered. The
tuition is about $16,850, books and
supplies are $6,593 and fees are
$6,003 per year. There would be no
room costs because I would live in
town. It is ranked as one of the top
25 medical schools for research. It
was founded in the 1900’s in Dallas
but later moved to Houston.
I plan on staying in the city, looking for a job. I
would probably just change the location of the
city and move somewhere down the South of
Houston. The specific place would be around
the area around Galleria and Katy. There are
these really pretty apartments that always
caught my eye. Sendera at Greenway are a
really pretty apartment complex.
The rent would vary, but in my case the rent would be
around $790 if I get the apartment at Sendera in Greenway,
along with the usual costs of utilities like gas, electricity,
water and other services. Buying a living always varies from
person to person depending on how what standards the
person is used to be living in.

Chapter vii
Triumph and Tragedy
1. Most of the joyous,
fulfilling times of my life
would probably have to
be family gatherings and
family outings. My family
normally gets together
for holidays, for example
Christmas or New Year’s.
It made me really love
the people around. And
no matter how different
our lives are, we could
still enjoy holidays
together.
2. I haven’t had any
extreme tragic times in
my life. I have come
through hard times in my
life though. There had
been stuff that my
brother has been through
and my mother being in
the hospital for some
time. But probably the
most difficult situation
that I’ve been in was
when my parents were
borderline to get a
divorce. Things were
getting rough in the
house and no one would
talk to each. Then we
reached for help and
things started calming
down around the house.
But we overcame the
problem.
3. From these rough times
I’ve learned that people tend
to change without noticing it
or even wanting it to happen.
You never know what could
happen after these changes
happen but you can only
hope to work on improving
and living life to the best you
can.
4. Yes, there were moments
that I recall as breakthroughs
in my life. It was probably
when my brother talked to
me one night, giving me hope
that we could get through
this as a family. It really
helped me out.
5. I wouldn’t change one
thing differently in my life.
Because it it wasn’t so, I
wouldn’t be where I am
today.
Chapter viii
Words of Wisdom
I’ve learned a lot of things, but
something I would share with the
younger generation would be
that things change rapidly.
Nothing will stay the same no
matter how much you want it to.
Changes come, people change,
and the environment is changing
as we speak. You could always
learn to manage to the new
adjustments and be ready for
anything that life throws at you.
Chapter ix
Funnybones
1. Some of my family’s favorite things that we did was when we
would sit around in a circle and tell jokes before bed time. Back
when we all my siblings live under the same roof. My mom
would tell us to go to bed. We could probably stay up doing that
all night.
2. The funny person in our family would have
to probably be my brother. He would always
be doing pranks on us and telling us jokes.
3. The funniest family story that I remember was
when we all lived in the same house when we were
little, and he would always hide my older sister’s
right shoe. I always got a crack out of it when she
went crazy looking for it.
Chapter x
Thank you…
1. I am most grateful for my family. They have helped and really got me ready for the things coming in my way. I really want to thank them for the support they have given me and also for them believing in me and my ability to do things. I’m also grateful for God and the blessings he has giving me to be here today.
2. I try to teach others to be grateful by showing it, first of all. You should always let someone know how grateful you are for them being there and showing that they care about you by showing support.
3. There are a couple of places that mark special gratitude for the ones I love. One of those places is home. So many things have happened under this one roof. Also the people that I most love live under that roof. Another place that I am very fond of would have to be my church. I have so much moral support from those in it. I really love being in church because it gives me hope to a better future in the many aspects that life has.
Chapter xi
Reflection
I have done various things to get where I am today. Since I
want to be successful in the medical field, I have driven
myself to medical classes since freshman year. And then I
heard about this specialized career school, and which I now
attend. Carl Wunsche Senior High is a part of my education
life to achieve my goal. It is helping see more into the real
world and helping me realize it its really something I want
to do for the rest of my life. The next huge step is college. I
will have to do a lot of things to get there. These things
include apply into a college and paying all that money to
afford to stay there throughout the years. I will make my Big
Dream come true by keeping my grades up and as high as
they could be throughout my school years. Focusing on what
I’m doing and being patient would really help me get
through this process of moving into college and actually
attending college and keeping good grades to graduate
college. I am working on the application process, to see if I
can get in and also getting scholarships to pay for my tuition
and extra costs that I may need. Hopefully I am successful in
this career field.
