What is Drama Conventions?

• Drama conventions means that there is specific actions or techniques that an actor or director has employed to create a desired dramatic effect and style.

• For example these are Drama Conventions

• Resolution

• Characters that audience can relate to

• Climactic

• Tension

• Emotions

• External conflict

• Internal conflict

Explores Relationship

• In Drama exploring the relationship of a character allows the audience to refer to the characters emotional upheaval or turbulence which is felt during the episodic level which than the audience relate to as no resolution for the character

Resolution

• In Drama Resolution means that there is going to be a happy ending because of the resolution to the situation

Characters that audience can relate to

• In Drama it is very important that the audience can relate to characters, this is because that characters are telling their story to audience which means that the audience should be able to relate to the characters so that they can feel the emotions and situation that the character has gone through

Climactic

• In Drama Climactic takes place near the climax of the story, therefore the story has a limited number of characters, scenes, and events that is tightly constructed

• This also puts the audience on the edge of their sets as the climactic of the story builds up to a high point and the fact that the audience want to know

Tension • In Drama tension is an

interchangeable term with conflict but it differs as tension lies in the development of suspense in a performance, therefore as the audience watch certain outcomes in the plot builds the tension for example mystery

• The development of tension usually leads to a crisis or climax and tension is closely linked to timing

• Tension can be created by the unknown

• Tension can be created by simply the audience following where characters look

• Tension can be created by the use of emotions between characters

Emotions

• In Drama emotions allows the audience to feel what the characters feels in the story, therefore having emotions can lead to the characters getting their voice heard or it could lead to the climax of the story as sometimes use of emotion can bring tension, suspense and emotions give the story the extra dramatic effect of the story being real

External Conflict

• In Drama external conflict is the struggle that occurs in the story for a character, therefore it could be a struggle between a character and outside forces, this is could be another character or the environment

Internal Conflict

• In Drama internal conflict is the mental or emotional struggle that a character is having, therefore this could be about a character having difficulties to accepting that one of their beloved had died to the fact that they have some kind of illness and they don’t accept it
