Welcome!Welcome to the Drake Bull Sale - 2015 Edition. What

a great time to be in the cattle business!

As all of you cattle-folk know, these are the times

we’ve been waiting for through tough years and lean

years. We have all hung in there, we survived, and we

had fun! We remember the good times and so many

good people.

Along the way we have improved the Simmental

cattle in every way. As you study these bulls you will

notice the calving ease numbers and birth weights

are excellent with many real calving ease sires. You

will see great performance in sound, easy to look at

packages. You will see many very attractive blaze

faced bulls and bulls of any percentage you want

from 1/4, 3/8 and many 1/2 blood SimAngus™ and

purebred bulls.

We don’t creep feed our calves as we want to know

what our cows are really doing. Almost any cow can

raise an 800 lb. weaning weight calf if you grain the

whole works. Our cows are maintained like most

commercial herds; never in a barn, calve on pasture

ground, take care of and raise a good calf, breed

back and do all of this on the feed and environment

of these Southern Iowa hills. These cows fit the

environment!

You will find here high performing, trouble-free,

common sense bulls that will make you money for

Explanation of How to Utilize API and TI IndexesFirst, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000).
