How to sketch : Pre-writing stage

Definition of sketching

Quick or hastily executed drawing or painting- giving out the essentials features of the given object

Good way to communicate ones idea

Thesis statement stating the processes of the sketching and what object I selected for the sketch

2nd paragraph

The observation

Ive chosen the weighing scale because it has various usage and the importance of it being in the kitchen as an aid for beginners to start of cooking well

Five senses, smooth and rough because made out of multiple materials

Smell and taste. Not much can be said in this category because the selected kitchen utensil is odourless and tasteless

Whyd I select the kitchen utensil? Because its a utensil that is usually taken for granted and that people dont use it to its full potential.

3rd paragraph

The stationaries used: pencils, erasers, rulers, and a few blank A4 papers

Tonal values variations due to the graphite strength in the pencil. Ranging from 2H to 6B

Got a reference image from the internet to do the sketching

Process of the sketch: begin with an isometric box as a guide for the sketch. Using a HB pencil for the rough sketching and a 2B pencil for adding the depth and detail of it

4th paragraph

As observed from the reference image, the light source comes from the left side of the kitchen utensil

Using different types of pencils with softer lead was used to generate the darker tones in my drawing

Contours and its importance

5th paragraph

The sketch took me several tries for me to come up with a drawing that I am satisfied with.

Total time spent 2 hours plus. Most of the time spent was into the detailing such as shading and contouring

Satisfaction ensues upon seeing the final sketch done for the utensil

Would I sketch again in the future? Yes, most definitely.
