In accordance with Article 97 of the Charter of the United Nations, as well as thejoint letter of the President of the General Assembly and the President of the SecurityCouncil dated 15 December 2015, based on the General Assembly Resolution 69/321, onbehalf of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, I have the honor to present thecandidature of Dr. Srgjan Kerim, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic ofMacedonia and President of the 62nd Session of the UN General Assembly, for theposition of Secretary-General of the United Nations.

A seasoned diplomat, economist, scholar and businessman, Dr. Kerim brings with hirn awealth 01 experience in international political and economic affairs and extensive knowledge01 the United Nations system.

With more than 30 years 01 international political experience, as Foreign Minister,Ambassador 01 the Republic 01 Macedonia, and President 01 the 62nd Session 01 theGeneral Assembly of the United Nations in New York, Dr. Kerim has proven hirnself as oneof the most respectable diplomatie figures on an international scale. He is a member of theCouncil of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly.

Dr. Kerim began his academie career as a professor of international economics at theUniversity 01 Belgrade. In addition, he was a visiting professor at the University of Hamburg(Germany) and at New York University. He is the author of 10 books dealing withinternational politics, economics and youth, and has published more than 100 seholarlypapers. He holds a doctorate in international economics from the University of Belgrade.

As a successful businessman, Dr. Kerim is President of the Board of Direetors of Media PrintMacedonia in Skopje, and in 2004 he was appointed Chairman of the Board of PolitikaNewspapers and Magazines in Belgrade. He has served as General Manager for South­Eastern Europe of the WAZ Media Group, since 2006 and is an Honorary President of theMaeedonian - German Economie Association since 2008.

Dr. Kerim is a member of the Metropolitan Club in New York City founded in 1891 by J.P.Morgan. He is also a recipient of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals Awardand has been decorated with honors from nations sueh as ltaly, Germany, Austria, theUnited States of America and others. Dr. Kerim has a passion for writing poetry andphotography.
