The Study
The study looked at the work habits and overall health of
167 employees for 180 days. The results clearly
demonstrated that the biggest advantage of "stand-capable"
desks was increased productivity. Dr. Pankaj Naram points out that the information in studies like this are not only
educational but might lead people to healthier lifestyles.
Long-term benefits of standing
Because many other research studies have shown the long-
term benefits of standing compared to sitting during the
work day, researchers were encouraged by the finding of increased productivity. That
probably means, according to those who designed the study,
that a healthier lifestyle at work is also a more productive
way to go about one's job.
Standing-capable desks
The standing-capable desks allow workers to decide when to sit and when to
stand. In the study, participants were able to choose when and if they
wanted to stand or sit throughout the day. Even
with those limits, the results are revealing.
