In a world where change is the rule and not the exception, th e
management capacity to adjust rapidly to change and volat itlity is the
key to international competitiveness.
“I am not here to foresee the world. I am here to ensure that I have a company

Development Banks in Angola and Mozambique
Following the Memoradums signed between Portugal, Mozambique and Angola, CGD
(representing the Portuguese State) is working in the setting-up of two Development
Banks, respectively in Mozambique - Banco Nacional de Investimento (“BNI”) - and
Angola – Banco para Promoção e Desenvolvimento (“BPD”).
BNI will have a share capital of USD 125 million, of which 49,5% will be held by CGD,
49,5% by Direcção Nacional do Tesouro (Mozambique Treasury) and the remaining 1%
by BCI.
BPD’s share capital will ascend to USD 500 million, held in equal parts by CGD and
Sonangol.
These Banks may hold Venture Capital subsidiaries in their respective local markets, and
in BPD’s case also in Portugal.
Both Banks’ share capital are still only partially subscribed, and there is still no definitive
date for the Banks’ inaugurations.
