Objectives of the Workshop To create an awareness regarding the various social security legislations. To provide an indepth understanding of the various social security legislations to the academicians, lawyers, students and other personnel. To impart knowledge on the law, procedure and the means for obtaining the benefits provided under various social security schemes. To analyse the defects and lacunae that are prevalent under the existing social security legislations To provide an understanding of the crucial issues with regard to the implementation of various social security schemes enacted by the Government. To disseminate practical knowledge on the legislation relating to compensation to workmen, employees insurance, provident fund, old age pension, sickness, maternity, retirement and other benefits. To update the latest developments in the arena of social security legislations.
ParticipationManagers having responsibility to manage human resources, Law Officers, Executives from all functional areas of management, Officers having legal compliance in public and private sector, Trade union Leaders, Members of Labour Court/ Tribunal, Officials of Labour Welfare Departments of Centre and State and NGO's, Lawyers, Teachers, Students of Law and persons who are having special interests in the field of Labour and Industrial laws are encouraged to participate in this workshop.

About the University
The Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University is a premier institution for legal
education, established in the year 1997 in pursuance of the Tamil Nadu Act No.43 of 1997.
His Excellency Shri.K.R.Narayanan, the then President of India inaugurated it on
September 9, 1997. As a sui generis model, the University is the first of its kind in the
country offering legal Education both on its campus and through the affiliated Law
Colleges in the State of Tamil Nadu. It is endowed with the authority to grant affiliation to
Law Colleges in the State to promote legal education, to institute degrees, titles, diplomas,
other academic distinctions and to pursue higher level research. All the seven Government
law colleges and one private Law College stand affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar
Law University. The University has established the School Of Excellence In Law in the
University campus. In the race for reaching heights in legal education and legal
specializations, the Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University is in the forefront with
renewed efforts in offering quality education, skills, training and furthering the focus on
the Post Graduate studies in Law.

The Concept of Social Security is based on the ideals of social justice. The quest for social
security and freedom from want and distress has been the consistent urge of man through
the ages. Therefore Social Security is a necessary phenomenon of a Welfare State as it is
one of the most progressive and dynamic instruments for achieving Socio-Economic
progress. The Preamble of the Constitution of India is the sole repository of Social
Security Measures and envisages for establishing a Socialistic State. This has been
enshrined through the provisions of the Directive Principles of State Policy enumerated
under Part-IV of the Constitution. There are many social security laws covering different

security legislations is also another impediment in widening the application of these
Acts.The present social security system in India is suffered mainly by multiplicity of
laws, lack of policy and scarcity of implementation mechanism. In this backdrop the Department of Labour Law and Administrative Law is holding this Workshop to disseminate practical knowledge on the various social security labour legislations.
