Correlational Design which comes under Non-Experimental Design.
Variables under study Independent Variables Factors contributing burnout which includes; Personal Factors Peer Group Relation Job Factors Other Factors. Dependent Variable Level of burnout.
SETTING OF THE STUDY
z The reputed hospitals which consists of bed strength varies from 100-1100 were selected for data collection.

POPULATION The total numbers of nursing personnel
working in 18 hospitals were 3519. The investigator has planned to collect data from 2 hospitals in each of the 10 districts with the total of 20 hospitals. Due to the problem of getting permission in 2 hospitals, these hospitals were excluded from data collection.

z SUMMARY
z CONCLUSION
IMPLICATIONS
z NURSING PRACTICE z Periodical appraisals of work pressure and job
satisfaction of nursing personnel need to be done. zA full time appointment of counselor for the hospital
staff to discuss all personal and professional matters needs to be made.
zAppointment of human resource management manager or human relation officer should be done.
NURSING EDUCATION
z Ensure that nursing students learn and practice
handling different stress producing situation.
z Encourage interested students to participate in
conference on stress reduction programme which
enhances the knowledge to live a balanced life.
z Educational institutions can arrange and conduct workshops, conferences and seminars on yoga and meditation as an intervention to reduce stress and burnout for the students.
z Make available literatures related to stress reduction and peaceful living in the library for nursing students reference.
z Educators can encourage budding nursing personnel to bring out innovative and creative ideas for leading a peaceful life.
NURSING RESEARCH • Nurse researcher can promote more researches in
various non-pharmacological interventions for reduction of stress and promotion of healthy environment.
• More research needs to be conducted on safe job climate to enhance the workforce cohesiveness in the hospital.
• Disseminate the findings through conferences, seminars, publications in professional, national, and international journals and worldwide websites.
NURSING ADMINISTRATION z Nurse administrators should collaborate with
governing bodies/statutory bodies in formulating policies to empower the successful nursing practice and meet their demands.
z Continuing education programme and in-service education programme should be conducted on the topics of stress management and how to overcome personal and professional problems.
• Nurse administrators should appoint one counselor in the hospital and facilitate a mutual understanding between top-level management and nursing personnel.
• Periodical meeting or get together program need to be organized by the nurse administrator for getting the direct feedback from nursing personnel regarding their problems and inconvenience.
RECOMMENDATIONS z The study can be conducted with larger samples
for better generalization. z The study can be conducted as experimental
design comparing job climate of one hospital with another hospital.
z A study can be conducted by checking many other factors like economic factors, social factors, cultural factors and hereditary factors that contribute to the burnout.
z A comparative study can be conducted by adopting non-pharmacological interventions in reduction of stress and burnout.
z A study can be conducted to assess the knowledge and practice of staff nurse regarding various stress management programme.
z The same study can be replicated in various settings and in various ethnic groups.
LIMITATIONS z The investigator planned to collect the samples from
20 hospitals in 10 districts of Tamilnadu state. He planned to collect the data from two hospitals of each district. Since, the permission was denied from two hospitals of Madurai and Thanjavur district the investigator collected the data from one hospital of each above said districts. Therefore the investigator collected the samples from 18 hospitals only.
z The study is limited to the nurses working in private, trust and missionary hospitals of Tamilnadu only.
