Downloading, Installing, and Configuring Blackboard Drive

Step-by-step “Blackboard Drive” allows users to access, manage, and edit files stored in the “Content

Collection” of Blackboard Learn from their desktop, without the need to enter Blackboard Learn itself. Note: Installing Blackboard Drive requires administrator privileges. If you cannot install software onto your desktop, see your departmental IT coordinator.

To get started, login into Blackboard Learn. Once inside, locate and click on the Utilities tab (it is near the top right of the page).

The Utilities tab page appears. Depending on the OS installed on your computer, locate and right-click on the proper download link and click Save Link As. For this tutorial, the “Download Windows 32-bit” version link will be used.

A “Save dialog box” will appear. Click Save to save the installation file to your computer or click Run to simply start the installation process. For this tutorial, the “Mozilla Firefox” browser is used.

Once the installation file is saved to your computer, find where it is saved and open it. Otherwise, if chose Run, then the installation will start immediately.

First, choose the Setup Language, then click OK.

Second, after the Windows Installer dialog box disappears, the Blackboard Drive Setup Wizard will appear. Click Next.

Third, click the checkmark after reading through the Important Notice information, then click Next.

Fourth, confirm the destination folder for the Blackboard Drive Installation and click Next.

Fifth, the Installation Options will appear. By default both the “Create Desktop Shortcut” and “Launch Blackboard Drive at System Startup” options are selected. Confirm their selection, deselect if needed, then click Next.

Sixth, click the Install button to start the installation. The “setup wizard” will run through the process of installing the program. Once it has finished, the dialog box will confirm its completion. Optionally, keep the “Launch Blackboard Drive” option selected to start the program immediately, or uncheck to start it later (for this tutorial the checkmark is maintained). Click the Finish button.

Now, “Blackboard Drive” will start up. The program will open up with blank settings. To get started, click the Plus button in the bottom left of the dialog box.

The “New Volume” dialog box appears. Type a name in the Volume Name text field, such as “Blackboard Drive”. Then, click in the Full Url text field to provide how “Blackboard Drive” will connect- for this use: https://mycourses.purdue.edu/bbcswebdav . Lastly, type in your Purdue

Career Account Username and Password- optionally, click Save Password to have “Blackboard Drive” remember your credentials. Once finished, click OK.

To go back and make changes or access the advanced options, click the Configure button on the bottom left of the Volumes tab.

The “Editing Volume” dialog box appears. From here you can change the Username and Password. For this tutorial however, click the Advanced Options arrow.

The Advanced Options appear. Optionally, you can click the checkmark for the “Open Explorer Window Upon Connection” option. Also, the default startup mode for the volume can be set to connected, as well assigning a specific drive letter. Once finished with changing the advanced options, click OK.

Now, in order to connect to Blackboard, locate and click on the Connect button on the bottom right of the dialog box

The status will change to “Connected” in the “Blackboard Drive dialog box. If you enabled the “Open Explorer Window Upon Connection” option, then a Windows explorer window will open

immediately. Otherwise, to find the “Blackboard Drive” drive, go to Computer inside Windows and it will appear as one of your “Network Locations”. Double-click the drive.

An explorer window linking to the “Content Collections” of each course and more will appear.
