Introduction The Globalstar GSP-1700 can function as a data modem for use with Windows 7 offering uncompressed 9.6 Kbps data throughput. To setup your Windows 7 computer and Globalstar phone for data use, simply use the OCENS/Global Marine Networks Dial-up Networking Installer, and then configure your computer to access the GSP-1700.

Step One: Downloading and Running the “Dial-‐up Networking” (DUN) Installer 1. Start with the Globalstar GSP-1700 off and not connected
to your machine. You will connect it later.
2. Download the latest installer at: http://common.globalstar.com/expressdataCD2012/English
3. Select Install Globalstar Modem Software

4. Select “PC Users”
5. Select “ Windows 7 / Windows 8 Installer”
6. Run the Installer, which will open an Installation Wizard.
Click “Next” to begin the installation
7. Once you accept the terms, and click “Next”, you will be
prompted to connect a USB device, connect and power on the Globalstar GSP-1700 phone.

8. Click the “Device Manager” button to bring up Windows Device Manager
9. Under “Other Devices” right-click on “Qualcomm CDMA
Technologies MSM” and then click on “Update Failed Driver.” Windows may not recognize Qualcomm and list it as an “Unknown Device”
10. Right click and select “Update Driver Software…”
11. A new window will open. Select “Browse my computer for
driver software”

12. Browse the C:\ Drive and find the file called c:\wireless.drv. You can find this using the filepath C:/ > My Computer > wireless.drv
13. Underneath the File path name, ensure that “Include
subfolders” is selected, then click on “Next.”
14. Windows will find the driver. Click on “Install this driver
software anyway.”

15. A new window will open saying “ Windows has successfully updated your driver software” Close the window.
16. In the Device Manager, under “Ports (COM & LPT)”
Communications Port for GSP-1700 will now be visible.
Step Two: Configuring the Dialup Adapter and Modem
17. Return to the Wizard, which should say “Connect the USB adapter which interfaces to the satellite terminal to the computer now.” Click “Next.”

18. Click on “Quick Install.”
19. The computer will probe the serial ports looking for satellite
phones. Once it finds the GSP-1700 connected, a new window will appear.
20. Click on “Install the driver software anyway”.
21. A Window will appear saying “Installing Modem “Globalstar
GSP-1700 Modem” for use by Dial-up Connection “Globalstar Packet Modem.” Click “OK.”

22. A new window will appear. Your Globalstar 1700 phone driver has been successfully installed. Click “Next” to complete the installation.
23. Click “Finish” in the Installation Wizard to close it.
Step Tree: Install Express Data
24. Install “Globalstar Express” Data by accessing http://common.globalstar.com/expressdataCD2012/English/ in your internet browser

25. Chose the “Installer Windows Version”
26. Close your internet browser and “Run” setup_pc.exe, the
file you download, and click “Next”
27. Please read the terms and license agreement and click
“Accept”

28. Click “Next”
29. Read the pop-up and if applicable to you, follow the
instructions, then click “OK” to continue
30. Click “Ok” and restart your computer
31. You must Register Express Data before using this data
compression software. Visit http://common.globalstar.com/expressdataCD2012/English/gusa__express_data.htm And click “CLICK HERE TO REGISTER”

32. Enter your information and click “Submit”, you will then be directed to Propel’s Express Data Software site. If you encounter any issues please contact Globalstar Customer Care at 877 452 5782
33. Chose a username and password
34. Please check your email to obtain access information

35. Please follow the steps in the Configuration Wizard to set up your Express Data
Step Four: Connect to the internet
36. To connect to the Internet, Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings
37. Use the view by Large Icons

38. Click on Network and Sharing center
39. Click on “Change adapter settings”
40. Double-click on the “Globalstar Packet Modem” icon. Ensure the phone
number is #777. To create a short cut, drag the Globalstar Packet Modem to your desktop. For your initial test, disable all other connections. Ensure to enable connections after your test.

41. Click “Dial.” You must be outdoors, your must have a clear view of the sky and be registered on the network and ready to place a call.
42. Open Google search engine as a test.
43. To disconnect, simply right-click on the “Globalstar Packet Modem”
icon and select “Disconnect”.
