• Basically, the rules for the singles game is almostthe same with that of the doubles, except for:

The service direction

The service order

Receiving order

The service direction• The service is diagonally done by the server. The server is the player at

the right side of the serving team.

• We have labelled the right (R) side of the table for everyone’s benefit.

• The direction of the ball should be from the right side of the server goingto the right side of the receiver.

• If the ball landed on the center line, it is considered a good ball. If the balllanded on the left side of the receiver, it is considered as a fault.

The service order• The service is diagonally done by the server. The server is the player at

the right side of the serving team.

• Here, you will see players A and C on one side of the court, and playersB and D on the other side.

• Let us assume that team AC won the draw for the service. This meansthat A will serve first. Player A must serve diagonally to player B.

• Player A will still serve twice, unless the service or rally is a “let”.

The service order• The next server will be the player who received the ball from the

previous server, in this case, player B.

• Note: after player A’s 2 “scored” services, player A will move to the leftside of the table, and player C will transfer to the right side of the table. After they exchange position, player B may start serving the ball. Whichbrings us now to the receiving order. After B’s service, they too, willexchange position.

The receiving order• The receiving order for doubles is easy. Players alternately receive

the ball in a specific order. We started the service with player A in theprevious slides. That means A’s receiver is B. B’s receiver is C, C’sreceiver is D, and D’s receiver is A. During the rally, the players mayplace the ball in any side of the court.

The receiving order• Remember, after the 2 scored services, the player who served must

exchange places with his/her teammate/partner so when the

opponent serves the ball, the right receiver is in position.• Wrong receiver means fault for the team.

• Our pattern is A-B, B-C, C-D, D-A.

The service and receiving order for the next set• For the second set, teams will change sides (change court) and the players

will go back to their original position, players A and B both on the right side ofthe court.

• This time, we shall apply the “change court  – change receiver ” rule.

• Player B will now serve first for the second set and the receiver will be player A. So the pattern now is B-A, A-D, D-C, C-B. I hope you got that.

• For the third set (decision set), the players willagain change sides, go to their original positionand start the game. Player A will serve and Bwill receive (the same as set 1).

• When a team reaches 5 points, they will changesides with their opponents. The “ch nge courtch nge receiver” rule will be applied. Thatmeans, the previous receiver will not be the onereceiving the ball, but his/her partner. (i.e., fromA-B, it will now become B-A.

• I hope you understood my explanation here. I tried tomake it as simple as possible. I know it will be a lot

easier if you can see it applied in the game. Don’t worry, that will happen soon .

• If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to post it inthe discussion board. I will create a thread just for this

purpose.SEE YOU SOON!!! Take care and stay safe!
