ORGANIZATIONHuddle

The center will set the huddle 5 yards from the football. After receiving the play, the QB will step in to the huddle and say the formation, color, and play twice followed by the snap count twice. The team will leave the huddle by saying “ready break” and clapping once. Hurry to line and line up.

LOS________________________LOS

T G C G T X/W Z/Y

A F Q C

Snap CountThe snap count is “Down, Set, Go”. We can go on Down, Set, Go or Go Go if it is called on 2. An

“Aggie Count” will be used to draw the defense off in certain situations. The QB will go through the cadence, but no play is called. A timeout will be used if the defense does not jump.

ColorsTo Indicate a play being run or thrown to the right, we will use the color “white”. To indicate a play

being run to the left, we will use the color “black”. “Black Side” “White Side”

Line Stances and AlignmentOur offense depends on our being able to :• Protect the inside gap• Pull cross field and turn up field• Release inside• Wedge blockSo, to give us an edge in the things we do:• LINEMEN ARE IN 3 POINT STANCES—INSIDE HANDS ARE DOWN, INSIDE FOOT IS BACK. The

down hands are directly in front of the back foot. Eyes are up, tails are down.• LINEMEN ARE BACK OFF THE BALL AS MUCH AS LEGAL. (Rule: Tops of helmets must be even

with center’s waist.) Guards down hands are even with some part of the center’s feet—adjust according to the individuals involved. Guards get set first, then tackles, then ends to prevent bowing.

• LINEMEN SPLITS ARE A MAXIUM OF 6 INCHES. (About the length of a dollar bill.)

B Wingback (A and C Backs), Ball Carrier #2• In a 2 point “tailback” stance, hands on thigh pads, eyes up• No forward lean, heels on the ground, turned in at 45 degrees, facing the TE or Tackle• 1 yard off the line, 1 yard outside the TE or Tackle (not quite able to reach out and touch the

OL’s butt) Quarterback, Ball Carrier #1• Feet back as far as possible (extend the arms) to avoid colliding with pulling guards• Narrow stance, slightly pigeon-toed to facilitate pivotingFullback (B Back), Ball Carrier #3• In a 3 point stance, tail down/eyes up, not quite able to reach out with down hand and touch

the QB’s buttReceivers (X and Z)• On the line of scrimmage, inside foot is up/chest is up• Eyes are looking in at the ball• Hands are up and in front of chest• If the ball is in center of the field, X/Z align on the top of numbers. If the ball is on a hash, the

near WR aligns at the bottom of numbers and the far WR aligns 3 yards inside the numbers.

PASSING GAME BASICS

• Quarterback 3 step drops from under or 1 step drops from gun and keys the flat defender in the quick (90’s) game. He throws opposite his movement.

• Quarterback 5 Step drops from under or 3 step drops from gun in the drop back (50’s) game and goes through “rhythm, read, rush” progression.

• Quarterback reverses out and rolls to the color side in the sprint out (80’s) gaining both depth and width, then goes through “rhythm, read, rush” progression.

• In trips, the outside two receivers will run the play side number one route. The 3rd receiver will run the play side 2 route.

FLAT, OUT, CORNER

• A Flat route bends out and works to a depth of 5 yards. The first step is out at a 45 degree angle with the outside foot, head snaps to QB on third step. When a flat reaches the side line, the receiver then wheels up.

• An Out route breaks out toward the side line at 10yds.
